DESCRIPTION

This 300 W hydrogenerator is the ideal companion for the Mini 6.50. It features a two-blade composite propeller with manual adjustable pitch, allowing it to handle significant speed variations effectively.

Field-tested since the Transat 2019, it is available in three distinct configurations to suit different installation preferences: removable support (PK-MINI-300-FA), bracket (PK-MINI-300-K), and bare leg (PK-MINI-300-MA).

KNOWLEDGE BASE

At what speed can I use a Watt & Sea hydrogenerator?
It starts producing as soon as your boat is sailing. From steady speeds of 4-5 knots, onboard energy requirements are typically met.

What drag does the Watt & Sea hydrogenerator generate?
The drag generated is very low compared to the sailboat's overall drag, with no measurable impact on sailing speed.

How can the right hydrogenerator model be chosen?
For boats under 35 feet a 300W model typically covers needs; boats over 35 feet prefer 600W models. Selection depends on equipment and consumption. Leg length must account for rudder offset (10-20 cm), vertical installation, and propeller submersion (20-30 cm even when heeled).

How should a hydrogenerator be maintained?
Service every 2 years or 10,000 miles. Regularly remove the propeller for shaft cleaning, inspect cables at mast outlets, and check plugs for corrosion.

When should a revision occur?
Every 10,000 miles or every 2 years, through your reseller.

Where can I purchase a Watt & Sea hydrogenerator?
Through the reseller network. Visit the reseller page to find professionals who answer installation and product questions.

How long does delivery take?
Generally 48 hours in France or abroad (depending on the country).

What force is exerted during sailing?
The maximum theoretical force on the mounts is approximately 300 kg due to lever-arm effects.

Can I install it myself?
It is not advisable. Professional installation ensures quality and prevents suboptimal production, device damage, or electrical/mechanical risks.

Can I repaint the hydrogenerator?
Yes. Use polyurethane or epoxy products following professional guidance, or apply stickers.

Is there a fuse system for impact protection?
The supplied pin maintains submersion but cannot guarantee a fuse function upon impact with a floating object.

Can an angled transom accommodate installation?
Yes, using the universal bracket FU-03, which adjusts for transom angles up to +/-45 degrees.

Can the hydrogenerator stay submerged while reversing?
Except for 600W POD models, this is inadvisable as the supports and articulation are not designed for it and may be damaged.

Do I need an electrical fuse?
Yes. Every battery bank must be protected by a fuse or a 50 Amp thermal circuit breaker.

How long does battery charging take?
Customers typically use the product 8 to 12 hours a day to ensure autonomy. Consult the product sheets for production curves.

What if my cable exceeds the recommended length?
Below 10 meters: minimum 3 x 1.5 mm2 cross-section. Above 10 meters: minimum 3 x 2.5 mm2. The MPPT regulator adapts to line loss.

What solar panels are compatible?
Panels with minimum 7.5V, maximum 50V, and maximum 14 Amps. The solar panel is only recognized by the converter once the hydrogenerator is turned off.

How do I connect the three-phase wires?
The three-phase wires have no specific order: they can be connected in any direction.

Can I charge both 12V and 24V batteries?
No. Both outputs must connect to battery banks of identical voltage.

Can Lithium-Ion batteries be used?
Yes, typically without adjustments. Verify recommended voltages are not below standard settings (14.3V/28.6V). Voltage adjustment software is available.

Can multiple battery banks be charged?
Yes. The converter has 2 outputs for 2 independent banks at identical voltage (12V or 24V).

Can production stop without raising the hydrogenerator?
Yes, using the ON/OFF relay with a suitable resistor. The device runs quietly at idle.

Can it operate while the engine runs?
No. The converter detects full batteries and enters freewheel mode. Lifting during engine operation is preferable, or install an ON/OFF relay with resistor.

Does it convert three-phase AC to DC?
Yes. The converter/regulator transforms three-phase AC and adjusts the voltage to charge the batteries.

Why must the converter be mounted vertically?
Vertical installation promotes natural convection cooling along the fins. Horizontal installation risks overheating and damage.
