Maximum working load (MWL): 1450 kg (3197 lb). Loads above the MWL can make the winch fail or pull off the deck.
Maintenance
Strip-down after the drum is off: unscrew the three screws (26) and remove the socket support, slide out the central shaft (20), unscrew the five hex screws (17) and remove the housing (16). Washer (13) may stay inside the drum support, and washer (30) must go back in its correct position. Then gear (15), washer (13), the gearing (9) and its pawls (7), gear (2), pinion (10), gear (5) and washer (4). Check the balls in the drum race and push any loose ones back in.
Routine
- Wash with fresh water frequently, and after every use.
- Keep teak cleaners and caustic products off the winch, especially anodized, chromed and plastic parts.
- No solvents, polishes or abrasive pastes on logos and stickers.
- Keep the holes and drain channels in the base clear so water cannot collect.
- Inspect visually at the start and end of every season; full overhaul, clean and lubricate at least every 12 months.
- Replace worn or damaged parts with original Harken parts only.
Overhaul
- Tools: medium flat screwdriver, 5 mm hex key, rags.
- Clean metal parts with a residue-free degreaser; rinse plastic parts in fresh water; dry with cloths that leave no residue.
- Check gear and ring-gear teeth, roller bearings and cages, pins and pawls for wear or corrosion.
- Brush Harken grease lightly on gears, gear pins, teeth and moving parts. Excess grease reaching the pawls can compromise safety.
- Oil the pawls and springs lightly. Never grease the pawls.
