Current after an initial period of use; speeds with a gypsy for 12/13 mm chain. Cable sizes are the minimum for a total run L<20 m: size up for longer runs. Breakers: DC, delayed-action (thermal-magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic). Rope values apply to the Quick rope/chain system only.

Before You Drill

In the box: windlass (deck unit + motorgearbox), contactor unit (1700/2000/2300W) or reversing contactor unit (3000W), base gasket, drill template, handle, fasteners, manual. Hydro: no contactor.
Tools: Ø 12 mm (15/32") drill, Ø 90 mm (3"1/2) hollow mill, 17 mm wrench.
Recommended: RL control board (mod. 800), HRC1002 hand-held remote, foot switch (mod. 900), hydraulic-magnetic breaker, chain counter CHC1102M / CHC1202M, RRC radio (R02, P02, H02).
Align the gypsy with the bow roller. Keep the deck faces parallel (lack of parallelism costs motor power); the deck thickness must be within the table range.
No obstructions under deck for cables, rope and chain; a shallow peak causes jamming. The installation drawing shows 40 cm (16") below deck.

Fitting

Drill the four holes with the drilling template.
Clear the chain passage and seal and smooth it (marine paint, gel coat or two-pack epoxy) so rope and chain run freely.
Set the upper section with the gasket between deck and base, then fit the lower section, inserting the shaft into the reduction unit.
Tighten the nuts on the fixing studs.
Connect the supply cables to the contactor unit. Hydro: connect the hoses from the selector valve to the hydraulic motor flanges.

Electrical System

DV5 1700/2000/2300W: contactor unit T6315-12 (12V) or T6315-24 (24V); L = L1 + L2 + L3 + L4.
DV5 3000W 24V: reversing contactor unit T6415-24 (24V); L = L1 + L2 + L3 + L4 + L5.
Control fuse 4A (12V) / 2A (24V).
DV5 3000W AC: separate three-phase diagrams for 230V (EC-BOX controller) and 400V (contactors KM1/KM2, fuses FU1 8-16A aM) with a 24V control battery.
Use a fuse, thermal-magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic breaker sized for the motor; it also isolates the control circuit.
Mount the contactor unit where it cannot get wet.

Operation

Weighing and Casting

Clutch (7 and 9) links gypsy and shaft: handle (1) in the drum bush (3) or gypsy cover (5), counter-clockwise to disengage, clockwise to engage.
Weighing: engine on, clutch engaged, brake released, handle out, press UP. Watch the last metres to protect the bow.
If it stops without tripping the breaker, wait a few seconds and retry; if the breaker trips, reset it and wait a few minutes; if still blocked, move the boat to free the anchor.
Casting: clutch disengaged and brake released for free fall, handle clockwise to slow the chain; or press DOWN for a controlled run-out.
At anchor, take the load on a chain stopper or a rope, not on the windlass.

Drum Use

Make sure the anchor and its rode are secured to a bitt or strong point.
Lock the gypsy (8) with the brake, release the clutch with the handle (at least 2 turns of the bush anticlockwise), remove the handle.
Two turns of rope on the drum (4), run the windlass keeping tension on the tail; vary tension to vary the speed.
When done, retighten the clutch clockwise and make the rope fast.

Never run the motor with the handle in the drum or gypsy cover; isolate the motor when working by hand. The windlass is not designed for storm loads and must not be the only anchor securing device.

Maintenance

Power off; take the chain or rope off the gypsy and drum.
Wash salt deposits off with fresh water regularly.
Once a year, drum version: loosen bush (3) with the handle (1), pull off drum (4) and top clutch cone (7), remove screws (33) and stripper (35), pull off the gypsy (8).
Once a year, no-drum version: remove the gypsy cover (5) with the handle, then the top clutch cone (7), screws (33), stripper (35) and gypsy (8).
Clean, then grease the shaft thread (27, 28, 29 or 30) and the clutch cone seats on the gypsy (7 and 9) with marine grease.
Clean and grease the motor and solenoid / reversing solenoid terminals.

Drilling Template

The DV5 X-Y drilling template (extra download) gives the four stud holes (Ø12) and the Ø90 chain hole for right (DX) and left (SX) chain pipe versions.
Print at 100% (no "fit to page") and check the printed dimensions against the windlass before drilling.
