Specifications

Item Value

Max load 1200KG (drill guide)
Fasteners 2 × M8 (5/16") hex or CSK head DIN7991, or low socket cap; tighten to max 20Nm

  • Do not operate the clutch before the rope is installed.
  • Removing the braid end cap or the spring from the Softgrip braid voids its warranty.

Installation (Including Access for Fasteners)

You need: 13mm spanner / 5mm Allen key, a small flat screwdriver, the Spinlock rope installation tool, 2 × M8 hex (or CSK) stainless bolts with nuts and washers.

  1. Remove the rear staple (A), then the rear cover (B), and lift the top cover (C) to reach the Softgrip braid.
  2. Lift the Softgrip braid at the rear of the clutch and remove the assembly completely (D).
  3. Insert the rear M8 hex head bolt into the moulding.
  4. For the forward bolt, push down on the front end of the spring cover and slide it forward under the front moulding (E).
  5. The rear of the spring cover pops up: remove the cover to insert the forward M8 bolt.
  6. Reverse these steps to refit the spring cover with no twists in the webbing.
  7. Insert both bolts into the holes prepared with the drill guide; keep the bolt heads seated inside the clutch and seal the holes if required.
  8. Add washers and nuts and tighten to max 20Nm.
  9. Reverse steps D to A: refit the braid assembly, top cover, rear cover and the formed wire staple.

Countersunk M8 fasteners can also be used for top mounting. Minimise rope entry/exit misalignment during installation and use.

Installing the Rope

  1. Check the rope diameter matches the Softgrip braid: reduced diameters affect performance.
  2. Strip back 2–3 cm of core and tightly whip the cover end with a loop using waxed Dyneema twine (F).
  3. Push the supplied wooden installation tool through the clutch from the front and attach it to the rope end loop.
  4. With the clutch closed, pull the rope through from forward to aft, pulling from behind the clutch.

Use

  • Open: pull the toggle until it clicks – the clutch is latched open and the rope runs free.
  • Close: push the button to re-engage the Softgrip braid on the tensioned rope.
  • Controlled release / slipping: partially pull back the toggle without latching open (this accelerates braid wear).
  • Release safely by controlling the rope on a winch; never flick it open under heavy load.
  • Check the clutch is correctly specified for your application, load and line size, and correctly installed before first use under load.
  • Braided fibre rope only – never three-strand or wire. Never use a damaged clutch or damaged rope.
  • Never flick open the handle when the clutch is heavily loaded: sudden release may cause injury and damage rope, rig and clutch. Release by controlling the line on a winch.
  • No cleaning or lubricating solvents, polysulphide or polyurethane based sealants: they degrade the product. Do not modify any part.

Drill Guide

  • XTX drill guide, 1:1 on A4 (297 × 210), dated SEP19: print at actual size and check the 205.0mm fastener centres before drilling.
  • The instruction drawings are not to scale.
