Sta-Lok Self-Fit Terminals — Fitting Instructions

What Is in a Self-Fit Terminal

  • Socket – slides over the wire first.
  • Wedge – slides over the central core of the wire; the outer strands are laid around it.
  • Former – sits in the bottom of the end fitting and shapes the strand ends as the terminal is tightened.
  • End fitting – eye, fork, stud, toggle, stemball etc.; the socket assembly screws into it.

Fitting instructions are supplied with each terminal.

Five Easy Steps

  • Step 1 – Slide the socket over the wire. Tip: wind tape around the wire approx. 12" (300mm) from the end to stop the socket sliding down the wire.
  • Step 2 – Unravel the outer strands 2" to 3" (50–76mm) to expose the central core. Tip: use a screwdriver to prise the first strands out of position.
  • Step 3 – Slide the wedge over the central core of the wire rope.
  • Step 4 – Reposition the outer strands: turn them clockwise or anti-clockwise around the wedge, depending on the lay of the wire. About 1/8" (2–3mm) of the central core should protrude from the end of the wedge. Space the outer strands evenly around the wedge and make sure no strand slips into the slit of the wedge. Tip: push the socket towards the end of the wire while repositioning the strands for control; once they are in position, push the socket firmly to hold them.
  • Step 5 – Final assembly: make sure the former sits in the bottom of the end fitting, screw the socket assembly into the end fitting and tighten with spanners. The assembly is complete.

Undue force is not required to terminate the wire.
