Dorade Boxes & Cowl Ventilators for Sailboats
Cowl ventilators and dorade boxes move fresh air below deck passively, without a fan or wiring. The cowl scoops air at deck level; the dorade box beneath it traps any spray or rain against an internal baffle and drains it back out, so only air continues down to the cabin.
Choosing cowl ventilators & dorade boxes
- Match diameters: box and cowl must share the same size — 75mm (3"), 100mm (4"), or 125mm (5").
- Stainless steel (AISI 316): long-term durability for offshore and liveaboard use.
- Synthetic & silicone: lighter, budget-friendly, and easy to rotate by hand.
- Aft-facing mounting: the standard orientation for suction-driven airflow underway.
