How to Choose an EVO Winch

Sizes and finishes

  • Self-tailing sizes 15, 30, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 65 in this guide; the range runs from Size 15 to Size 80.
  • Three finishes: Alloy Black, Alloy Grey and Chrome Bronze. Same dimensions; chrome bronze is heavier.
  • Size 15 is single speed; sizes 30 and up are two speed.
  • Size 40 and above can be converted to electric. Sizes 40 to 80 are also available electric or hydraulic.

Read the table like this

  • WLL is the working load limit of the winch; pick a size whose WLL covers the sheet load on your boat.
  • Power ratio is the pull multiplier with the handle: higher means easier trimming under load.
  • Line size is the rope diameter range the self-tailer grips.
  • D, B, H, L are drum diameter, base diameter, height and line entry height (dimensions diagram in the PDF). Line enters at 5–10°.

Features

  • No tools required for servicing: unscrew the top cap by hand to remove the drum and reach the gear train.
  • User-friendly direction arrows.
  • Investment cast stainless feeder arm covers the top of the winch, so no rope trap above the Wavespring jaws; its position adjusts to feed the tail into the cockpit.
  • Developed from the Lewmar Ocean winch.

Warranty & Power

  • 7-year Lewmar warranty on the EVO range.
  • Existing winches can be upgraded with a Lewmar conversion kit to electric.
  • Electric or hydraulic operation available from Size 40 to Size 80.
