How to Read the Lewmar Hardware Selection Guides
Blocks by boat length
- Four families: Control (30, 40), Synchro (50, 60, 72, 90, 105), HTX (50, 60, 72, 90) and Racing (60 HL, 80, 80 HL, 105 HL). The number is the sheave size in mm; HL = High Load.
- Pick the block family, find the job (mainsheet, halyard, spinnaker sheet, vang…) and read across to your boat length.
- Mainsheet rows are split into end-boom and mid-boom sheeting, and Control and Racing mainsheet rows into singles and double/triple blocks.
Footblocks and traveller cars
-
Footblocks are sized by the winch they lead to and by the sheet deflection through the block: 90° or 180°. At 180° the chart steps up a size at a smaller winch than at 90°.
- Footblock sizes run from 60 Synchro up to 155 HL Racing (130 and 155 HL are footblock sizes only in this guide).
-
Traveller cars (sizes 0–3) are chosen by application (genoa, end-boom mainsheet, mid-boom or multihull), with the maximum towing purchase for each size.
- Quick reference only, based on the average modern cruising yacht. Get the loadings from your designer and match them to the safe working load of the hardware.
