General Information
- Normal use: dismantle, clean and lubricate the winch once every second year. Extensive use (racing, charter, blue water sailing): lubricate once every year.
- Use ANDERSEN WINCH GREASE (a silicone/Teflon grease). Most other greases, including "marine grease", are not suitable for winches and can cause malfunction.
- Replace the pawl arm springs every second year; spare arm springs and other parts are in the Andersen Service Kit for your winch.
- Remove the winch handle when it is not in use but the winch is under load.
- Only use the recommended line sizes in the self-tailer. With mooring lines, do NOT use the self-tailing function and keep the line clear of the self-tailing arm.
- Place the winch according to the ideal rope entry shown in the manual, with the self-tailing arm within the shaded area.
- To identify the output drive gear: insert a winch handle and rotate in both directions; the drive gear only rotates clockwise, in a fast and a slow speed.
When assembling, push each pawl against its spring: it must move smoothly and return by itself to engage the teeth. If not, clean and lubricate pawls and gears and check again; if they still do not work, replace the springs and recheck. Malfunctioning pawls may lead to unexpected release of the winch force.
PVD-coated surfaces
- Rinse regularly in fresh water to remove salt, dirt or other contaminants and dry gently with a soft cloth.
- Grease or other marks: a mild, abrasive-free cleaner such as spray-on glass cleaning solution.
- Never use caustic detergents or other aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents.
