Installation & Use
- Ensure each hole in the deck is bedded, including the big hole in the centre. Do not put bedding compound IN the thread holes in the deck plate.
- Ensure the sealing ring (O-ring) on top of the gear unit sits in its groove.
- Do not use smaller wire than recommended: it can cause malfunction and, in the worst case, fire. Keep the wires as short as possible.
- The motor has a built-in overload circuit breaker that breaks the circuit before the motor gets too hot; after a short cooling period (depending on temperature under deck, ventilation etc.) it is ready again.
- If the motor has cut out, insert a standard winch handle and use the winch as a 2 speed manual winch meanwhile. Andersen recommends removing the handle when the winch is operated electrically.
- The electric drive unit is lubricated, sealed and needs no further maintenance. The winch on deck is a standard self tailing winch: dismantle, clean and lubricate it once a year, with a further lubrication check during the year under extensive use (racing, charter, blue water sailing).
- Andersen recommends always using ANDERSEN WINCH GREASE (silicone/Teflon®); most other greases, including "marine grease", are not suitable.
- Template and special tools are included; the electric unit can be turned in 6 horizontal steps (60°) and is bronze; winch and electric unit can be dismantled separately.
- Modular Power System: change to a hydraulic drive unit or 2+2 electric drive unit (as printed).
- Mounting instructions cover the 78 STE 2+2 and 78 STH 2+2. Picture 3: use the black base as a template; apply bedding compound; deck holes ø110mm (centre) and ø12.5mm; 6 pcs M12-A4 bolts (not included).
- The connecting diagram shows the switch box terminals Bat−, Bat+, A1, A2, D2, D1 and the two switches Sw 1 / Sw 2.
Wire Dimensions & Fuse Sizes
| Winch | Wire length* | 24V wire | 24V fuse | 24V bat. cap. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 78STE 2+2 speed | 0 - 3 m / 0-10 ft | 50 mm² | 200 A | 360 Ah |
| 78STE 2+2 speed | 3 - 8 m / 10-27 ft | 95 mm² | 224 A | 360 Ah |
*Wire length = distance from battery to switch box + distance from switch box to motor. Fuse must be of a slow blow type.
