Hayn Handy Crimp Lifeline Fittings — Instructions

Making Up the Lifeline

  • Step 1: make sure you have the proper equipment and all parts required. Use a sharp knife to strip the vinyl cover (if required).
  • Step 2: with vinyl-coated cable, strip back the coating (Fig. 1): strip length V = 1-1/2" for 1/8" cable, 1-3/4" for 3/16" cable.
  • Step 3: insert the stripped cable into the Handy Crimp fitting and crimp 3 times: the crimps go 1/8" from the end of the fitting and 1/8" apart; rotate 90° for each crimp to keep the fitting straight (Fig. 2).
  • Step 4: attach the crimped end fitting to its connection point and run the cable to the other connection point. Make sure the hardware is adjusted to the 2/3rds open position.
  • Step 5: attach the un-crimped Handy Crimp fitting to the other connection point, pull the cable tight alongside it and measure for the cut (Fig. 3).
  • Step 6: repeat steps 2 and 3 for the un-crimped end fitting.

Crimp Inspection

Step 7: every crimp must be inspected with a micrometer or caliper to the following specification:

Wire size Crimp dimension (in)
1/8" 0.185
3/16" 0.265
