Lewmar Pro-Fish Upgrade Kit — Fitting Instructions

Before You Start

  • Only Pro-Series units with serial numbers 561*** or 571*** can take the Pro-Fish kit.
  • The main shaft must have a threaded hole in its end; without it the kit cannot be used.
  • Check the plunger moves freely in and out and locks in the in position.
  • Isolate the windlass electrically, take the chain off the gypsy and tie off the rode before releasing the clutch nut.

Fitting the Kit

  1. Check the serial number (see above).
  2. Undo the clutch nut with a 1/2 inch ratchet and/or the Pro-Series winch handle, then unscrew it by hand.
  3. Remove the gypsy cone from the main shaft.
  4. Remove the two drive pins from the keyways on either side of the main shaft.
  5. Lightly grease the exposed end of the main shaft, keeping grease out of the threaded hole. Fit the Pro-Fish cap assembly and screw it down by hand.
  6. Put the brass washer on the cap screw, apply the Loctite provided to the thread and fit it into the end of the main shaft. Tighten with the Allen key provided to 21 Nm (15.4 lbf/ft). Allow at least 15 mins for the Loctite to cure.
  7. Undo and remove the stripper screws with the Allen key provided.
  8. Place the Pro-Fish cam onto the assembly.
  9. Fix the stripper and cam with the two new, longer screws supplied, threads coated with Loctite. Allow at least 15 mins to cure.
  10. Check free-fall: loosen the Pro-Fish cap and spin the gypsy by hand; it should spin freely.
  11. Run the unit a few times to make sure the free-fall mechanism works before fitting the rode.

Threadlocker: Loctite 638 (provided), or Loctite 262 or 2701.
