Values tested at +/- 10% on a 12/24V system. Rope: 10 -14 mm and 16 - 20 mm, 3 strand and 8 plait.
Fitting
- Tools: crimping pliers / wire stripper, suitable cable and crimp terminals, marine sealant.
- Make an accurate drilling template from the product dimensions, positioned with reference to the bow roller, the locker below and the swing of the manual handle; choose a flat area if possible.
- Drill 4 × 10mm (3/8”) holes for the mounting studs and 15mm (13/32”, as printed) for the gearbox fitting; cut the mainshaft hole with a 100mm (3 15/16”) hole saw.
- Seal the cut edges, then screw the studs into the base until they bottom out; studs with a flat go with the flat nearest the base of the windlass.
Electrical
- Install to ISO 10133 as a minimum; cable insulation rated 90°C or higher. Length = battery + to battery - including breaker and switch gear.
- Cable for VXC: 35 mm² to ISO 10133 Annex A for 20 m; 2 AWG to ABYC E11 for L= 66 feet.
- Circuit breaker supplied: 90A (Part No 68000349), close to the battery in a dry, accessible place; reset by hand after a trip.
- Contactor 68000939, 3 A fuse; switch wire 1.5 mm2 (16 AWG, as printed).
- When tightening the motor terminal front nut, hold the back nut with a second wrench; do not overtighten.
This manual gives two different breaker / current figures for the VXC: 58 A with a 70 A breaker in the specification table, and 112 A current with a 90 A breaker (68000349) in the cable table and wiring text (as printed). Check with us before ordering a breaker.
Operation
- Keep limbs, clothing and hair clear; operate with the footswitch; do not overload or stall.
- Lay the warp on the drum, three turns clockwise, put a light even tension on it, then switch on. For very heavy pulls use short bursts of about 10 seconds.
- If it stalls, switch off and wait a few seconds; reset a tripped breaker by hand. Avoid stalls longer than a few seconds.
- Secure the rope to an independent strong point (e.g. cleat). Isolate at the breaker when not in use.
Troubleshooting
| Problem |
Cause / remedy |
| Rode pays out while not in use |
Rode not secured and drive cap slack: tighten the drive cap with the winch handle and always secure the rode independently. |
| Fails to operate or sluggish |
Usually electrical. Keep proper voltage: 13.5 Volts on 12 Volt systems (26.5 Volts on 24 Volt); constant low voltage damages the motor. Check cable size, switches, connections, battery, isolator, fuse and motor. |
