| Rated capacity at chainwheel | 295Kg (650lb) |
| Chain speed | 21 metre/min (69 ft/min) |
| Current at normal working load | 12 Volt: 100 Amps |
| Current at stall | 12 Volt: 500 Amps |
| Nett weight | 17Kg (37.4lbs) |
| Chain | Calibrated short link chain to I.S.O. 1836 or DIN 766 |
| Standard build | Chainwheel fitted to the port side; can be changed in the field to the opposite hand |
Rated capacity and chain speed are based on maximum size calibrated short link chain; other sizes and/or optional motors affect capacity and speed. Designed to ABS rules for use with a chain stopper. The manual leaves the 24 Volt current values blank.
Location & Mounting
- Allow a maximum of 600mm (24") between the chainpipe locker outlet and the chain piled up in the locker so kinks shake free.
- Chain stopper between windlass and bow/chain roller, aligned so the chain passes through without being deflected and clear of the anchor stock.
- Footswitches at least 250mm (10") from the rear of the windlass so the operator can tail from the warping drum; below-deck portion dry, breather holes clear, arrows showing direction.
- Reversing solenoid in a dry area close to the windlass – never in the chain locker.
- Breaker/isolator panel in a dry place within 1.8 metres (72") of cable length from the battery (mandatory for U.S.C.G.).
- Deck must be reinforced for the breaking load of the chain; mounting pad perfectly flat (structural filler if needed). Standard units accommodate decks up to 100mm.
- Leave room to swing the clutch lever clear of pulpit, lifelines and bulwark; for automatic operation the anchor must be self launching.
Electrical
- Control circuits wired throughout in 1.5mm² (16 AWG) cable, with a manually resettable ignition-proof 3 amp fuse or breaker within one metre (40") of the breaker/isolator panel.
- Main system: two-cable, ungrounded, fully insulated negative return; motor is isolated earth type.
- Seal terminals after testing with CRC2043 "Plasti-Coat", CRC3013 "Soft Seal" or CRC2049 "Clear Urethane".
- Builder: treat the finished installation with CRC 3097 "Long Life" and wrap in plastic film.
Usual controls: one footswitch, one roving two-button control with deck connector, one remote up/off/down toggle and one footswitch isolator.

Conductor length is the actual length between battery and windlass; sizes allow approximately 10% maximum voltage drop and assume insulation rated at least 90°C (USCG, ABYC and NMMA).
Under Power
- Engage the cone clutches with the clutch lever (turn clockwise firmly), then remove the lever – never run the windlass with the lever in place.
- Release the chain stopper pawl (jog up momentarily if needed) and lower or raise with the roving or remote control; it runs only while the button is held.
- Motor over the anchor to reduce chain tension; jog in the last metre carefully and engage the stopper.
- Never rely on the windlass to hold the anchor in its roller: secure it with a nylon line or a pin through roller and shank.
Manual & Warping Drum
- Free-fall (power loss): stopper released, chainwheel pawl disengaged, back the clutch off two complete turns with the lever and regulate speed by tightening the clutch. Never let the chain run unrestricted.
- Warping drum: engage stopper and chainwheel pawl, fully disengage the cone clutches, then work the drum from the footswitch with only as many turns as needed – allow slip under sudden load.
Annual & Gearbox
- Annually: remove running gear, inspect, clean, regrease with lithium complex waterproof grease and reassemble. Chrome cleaner no more than once every 3 months.
- Gearbox is sealed; approximately every two years remove gearbox and mainshaft, check output tube, drive key and spacer tube for corrosion and repack with anti-corrosive paste.
- At the same time drain and refill with SAE 90 gear oil (e.g. Shell Omala 320, Castrol Alpha SP 320).
Tools & Lubricants
- Long series Allen keys 5mm, 10mm, 2mm A.F.; 13mm A.F. ring/open spanner; 12mm blade screwdriver.
- Grease: lithium complex base, NLG1 consistency No. 2 – never mix greases.
- Anti-corrosion: CRC 3013 Soft Seal, Lanocote, Res-Q-Steel, Boeshield T9.
- When ordering parts quote model, serial number, power supply, drawing reference, item and part number.
