Twin Mount Bracket
- Choose the best spot for hauling traps and nets, with room to extend and retract the arm, an easy cable run and minimal effect on stability.
- The deck must take the hauling forces; reinforce it with stainless reinforcement plates if needed.
- Mount the asymmetric part of the bracket towards the middle of the boat.
- If space allows, install the bracket at an angle to the normal hauling direction.
Socket & Power
- Fit the socket where it is naturally protected from spray and swell water.
- Marine grade cable to the 12V battery, through a master switch so the socket can be isolated.
- Battery + to the socket contact marked (+), the other contact to battery −; the raised centre contact is for an earthing cable.
- Cable cross-section depends on the run length (guide based on a maximum voltage drop of 1V with copper cable).
- Marine 12V battery of at least 60-80 Ah.
- No external fuse needed: a self-resetting bimetal fuse in the motor cover protects against current peaks and heat from long hauls near maximum load.
Mounting the Hauler
- Set the hauler on the bracket with the two vertical axle supports facing outwards and the single support inwards; insert the twin drop nose pin.
- Open the socket lid, align the bulge on the plug with the socket's dent, push in fully and lock with the locking wheel.
- Unfold the arm, extend it fully and press it gently down until it snaps into its grip; free the pulley so it hangs.
- Leave the rotating axle free to follow the pull, or lock it with the nylon locking knob. The stainless screw above it stops the hauler lifting off the axle: do not remove it, and do not use it to lock rotation.
- Switch position I runs the hauling wheel in its normal direction, position II in reverse.
Hauling & Stowing
- Feed the rope over the open pulley, around the forward lower nylon wheel, then around the stainless sheave under the press arm; the press arm gives enough traction to self-haul. The ejector knife stops the line jamming between the sheaves.
- Short hauls with rest periods: never run near the hauling limit continuously without resting for an equal time.
- Do not haul pots fastened to the sea floor. Mind the boat's stability, and the motor may affect electrical instruments on board.
- Spray-proof when mounted, but never submerge the motor unit.
- To stow: clip the pulley to the arm, lift the arm out of its grip and fold it into the lower grip, unlock and pull the plug, remove the pin and lift the hauler off. Turn off the master switch and close the socket lid.
Maintenance
- After salt or brackish water, wipe with a cloth wet with fresh water; never rinse or immerse the motor unit.
- Use contact spray on plug and socket now and then.
- Once or twice a year remove the top locking bolt, expose the axle and apply water-resistant grease.
- Degreaser spray on the stainless sheaves restores rope traction when needed.
- Store dry.
Warranty
- 3 years for the first owner, from the date of purchase, against defects in material and workmanship; effective on receipt of the warranty registration with the serial number.
- Charter or hire vessels: 1 year. Limited to twelve months for electric motors/controls, hydraulic pumps/controls/valves, weather seals and use on charter/hire/commercial boats.
- Not covered: normal wear, neglect, lack of maintenance, accident, improper installation or service by anyone other than an authorised Muir representative, use outside the performance specification. Defective product must be returned to Muir for inspection; freight and removal/installation labour are not covered.
