Installation

Snap shackle, ratchet & cage

  1. Snap shackle: fit the pin through the snap shackle and the hub (head of the pin towards the snap shackle arm), fit the cotter pin and check the snap shackle stands upright.
  2. Fit the shackle on the swivel (except NEX0.9, which has an eye terminal as standard).
  3. Ratchet versions only: insert the ratchet as shown. It uses 1 long screw and 1 short screw: apply blue glue to each and fit them in the cage.
  4. Cage adjustment: the cage is delivered fitted but not locked. Insert the allen key into the slot, orient the cage so the furling line is aligned and does not scrape the cage sides, then tighten the screw.

Furling line & sail

  1. Spliced furling line (sail disconnected): fit the line into the housing, place one side into the notch of the spool, turn the spool in the same direction as the ratchet and run the line through stanchion fairleads (not provided) to the stern.
  2. Tip: keep the line tensioned with a bungee cord and a snap hook.
  3. Drum version: pass the furling line through the drum hole and tie a stop knot that does not obstruct the drum rotation, then route the line out as shown.
  4. Sail: open the spool pin by pulling the 2 lanyards, place the thimble in the fork and close the pin.

Fitting the Options

  • MXEVO halyard shackle: open it, fit the halyard and install it on the swivel.
  • Halyard block: unscrew the screw with a TORX key (not provided), remove the pin and key, take out the sheave and bearing, fit the halyard on the sheave, refit sheave and bearing, glue and refit the screw; mount the block on the swivel with its pin and key (glue on the screw thread or on the key thread if necessary).
  • Swivel eye: unscrew the screw, apply glue on the thread of the eye, fit the eye and tighten the screw.
  • Solid sheave: open its pin to install it on the spool, then close the pin.
  • Other accessories listed: halyard shackle, snap shackle with fairlead, trigger snap shackle, protection covers, swivel locks, spliced furling lines, clamps for A/T cable, stainless steel, aluminium and cableless thimbles, anti-torque cables. Profurl also offers double fairleads and friction rings for the furling line.

No special maintenance: rinse with fresh water as often as necessary. Never use WD40 (or similar) on the seals in the mechanisms. Never use the swivel to climb the mast or to lift a load. The NEX flying sail furler has a 3 year world-wide limited warranty.

Booklet 8 also gives the halyard block (2,5T / 5T), clevis pin snap shackles 54100 / 54101 / 54102 and Wichard HR shackles 11203 / 11204 / 11205 data. The fork dimensions F with inch values look inconsistent with the mm values: use the mm values.
