How to fit the Profurl PRO AM 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 structural furlers on a stainless steel wire: halyard swivel and joining bearing holder, link plates, spool and head swivel, furling line and sail, soft shackle replacement, with the exploded parts drawings and dimensions.

Components & Preparation
System
- Components: complete spool mechanism, complete halyard swivel (with joining bearing holder) and head swivel; link plates, toggles and Wichard soft shackle.
- PRO AM furlers are designed to be fitted on stainless steel wire, which is not delivered as standard. Max forestay diameter: PRO AM 1.0 5 mm; PRO AM 2.0 6 mm; PRO AM 3.0 7 mm.
- PRO AM 3.0: the eye terminal must be swaged after the halyard swivel has been slid onto the wire.
- Have the forestay length checked by a skilled person; assemble on a clean, level surface.
Forestay terminals
- Ball terminals (mainly Isomat and Z-Spars masts): fit a ball-eye terminal into the mast head, shorten the wire by a few inches and have a new swage terminal pressed on.
- T terminals (mainly Kemp / Selden masts with fractional rig): fit a new stay attachment on the mast and have a toggle swage terminal pressed on.
System Installation
Halyard swivel & spool
- PRO AM 1.0 and 2.0: the halyard swivel can be fitted or removed even on a wire already swaged, thanks to the removable joining bearing holder. Take the holder out of the swivel, open it, close it around the wire (both loop ends on the same side of the wire).
- Slide the halyard swivel (without holder) onto the wire, slide the holder fully in, align the engraved arrows with the 2 screws and tighten them to 10 Nm; they must not protrude into the inner profile.
- Fit the two link plates on the spool fork pin and lock with one of the 4 split pins delivered. Fix the forestay between the link plates with a pin of suitable diameter (not delivered).
- Spliced furling line (sail disconnected): make a loop, thread it through the cage, engage one side in the spool notch and turn the spool to bring the line out on the other side.
Head swivel, deck & sail
- Fasten the forestay on the head swivel fork pin and lock with a split pin; fit the head swivel on the mast fastening with the pins and split pins supplied.
- Fit the spool mechanism on the deck fastening with the pins supplied.
- Cage: delivered fitted but not locked. Orient it so the furling line is aligned and does not scrape, then tighten the pre-fitted screw (15 Nm). Do not unscrew this screw (it would damage the threadlocker).
- Attach the sail tack to the link plates with the Wichard shackle, and the head with the Wichard soft shackle as shown (watch the position of the stainless steel connector).
Soft Shackle Replacement & Warnings
- Identification: joining bearing holder soft shackle = longest loop with smaller diameter; halyard soft shackle = shortest loop with largest diameter.
- Joining bearing holder soft shackle: insert the loop in the groove on top of the holder and along the groove, with one long and one short side; check the holder still closes. No need to dismantle the halyard swivel.
- Halyard soft shackle: requires dismantling the halyard swivel. Place it through the 2 holes, then lay both loops in the swivel groove, the second over the first.
- Withdraw a loop if it fails a visual inspection, its history is unknown, it is over 2 years old, or you have the slightest doubt; inspect regularly for cuts, wear, heat, chemical or UV damage.
- Furling direction: check the lay of the wire strands and always furl in the same direction so the cable does not untwist.
- Never use the halyard swivel to climb the mast or for loading applications.
- No special maintenance: rinse with fresh water; never use WD40 (or similar) on the seals. Warranty: 3 years on the mechanical parts, 2 years on the loops.
