  • Polyester rope spliced to galvanized steel chain.
  • Not intended for long-term anchoring, anchoring in rough water or securing an unattended boat: for that, Quick recommends an all-chain anchor package.
  • The breaking load of the rode system is always lower than the single breaking load of the rope or the chain; the rope maker's figure is a lab value without knots or splices.

Loading the Rode on the Windlass

  1. Remove the anchor-rode from the container (bucket) immediately after purchase and inspect it.
  2. Unroll it completely from the reel and lay it out in a straight line so it cannot kink.
  3. Insert the rope into the gypsy and let it slide through the hole in the windlass base into the anchor locker.
  4. Tie the rope end tightly to a strong point in the anchor locker.
  5. With the remote control, retrieve the whole rode with the windlass.
  6. Shackle the chain to the anchor, then lower the rode over the bow roller with the windlass.

Minimum anchor-locker depth is around 500 mm for up to 100 metres of rope and chain; more rope needs a deeper locker. The rope must be tangle-free and wet to run properly on the windlass, otherwise it can slip in the gypsy and be damaged.

Inspection and Care

  • After every use examine rope and chain for wear and weakness; replace worn polyester rope before the next use.
  • Check the rope where it leads off the boat for chafe and replace immediately if chafed.
  • Check the splice clamps regularly; re-splice if the rope could separate from the clamps.
  • Wash the rode with fresh water after each use to remove salt: it prolongs rope life and keeps the rope supple.
  • Secure the rode with a lock when not in use. Keep hands and clothing clear when it runs, and check there are no swimmers or divers nearby before dropping the anchor.
  • Limited warranty: one year from purchase; the registration card must be returned within 30 days.
