In the Box

  • Water heater, floor or wall-mounting brackets, screws and hardware, user's manual, conditions of warranty.

Installation and First Use

  • Dry, well-ventilated place: poor ventilation causes condensation that can look like a leak. Never where there is gas or flammable material.
  • Size the mounting for the full weight: empty weight plus about 1 kg (2.2 lb) per litre of water.
  1. Fit the brackets to the tank and fix the heater to a flat surface (floor or wall) with supports suited to the weight and surface.
  2. Connect tap cold water in and hot water out, and the engine cooling circuit to the heat exchanger. Keep the engine-to-exchanger run as short as possible and take the coolant as the engine manufacturer specifies.
  3. Use Loctite 243, 577 or Teflon on the fittings and check for leaks.
  4. Fit the relief valve stub pipe with its clamp, on a continuous downward slope, protected from ice and left open: it may drip.
  5. Open the hot taps and run the water pump to purge air; close the taps when only water flows. Check the fittings again.

Power Supply and Thermostat

  • Never switch on the electric element unless the heater is full of water: the element is irreversibly damaged and the protections do not work.
  • DC (12 V models): connection box supplied. Fit an ON/OFF switch and a 30A fuse in the supply; the diagram also shows a 2A fuse in the connection box.
  • AC: power cable supplied. Fit a double pole switch and a fuse suited to the element. At least 3 mm insulation between contacts; follow national wiring standards. Check the supply voltage matches the element.
  • Thermostat (AC, electric element only): factory-set to 60°C. Power off, remove the protection cover, turn the knob with a screwdriver, refit the cover, power on.
  • A damaged power cable must be replaced by a Quick service centre; opening the heater without authorisation voids the warranty.

Maintenance

  • Check the magnesium anode every 12 months and replace it if deteriorated.
  • Drain the heater with the valve lever when unused in the cold season (frost damage).
  • Disconnect the supply cable when the boat is laid up, against shore-power surges.
  • Periodically check fittings for leaks, fastening screws for wear or corrosion, and the electrical system.

Over-Temperature Reset (AC models)

  1. Power off and remove the protection cover to reach the thermostat.
  2. Turn the thermostat knob to maximum.
  3. Press the reset button on the double thermostat.
  4. Set the desired temperature, refit the cover and power on.

If the over-temperature safety trips repeatedly, contact a Quick service centre.
