Current is measured after an initial period of use; speeds with a gypsy for 8 mm chain. Cable sections are the minimum for a total run L<20 m (positive plus negative): size up for longer runs. Breakers are DC, delayed type (thermal-magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic). Rope values are for 3-strand polyester with the Quick rope/chain junction; operation with other rodes is not guaranteed.

Before You Drill

  • In the box: windlass, contactor box or reversing contactor box, lever, mounting bracket, assembly screws, manual, drilling template.
  • Recommended (not included): control board, waterproof push-button panel HRC 1002, foot switch 900, hydraulic-magnetic circuit breaker, RRC radio control (R02, P02, H02), chain counter 1103 (chain windlasses only).
  • Tools: drill with Ø 9 mm (23/64") bit and a 13 mm hex wrench (all models).
  • The BL weighs less than 20 kg and can be lifted out of the box without mechanical assistance.
  • The windlass mounts on a wall: inner and outer faces as parallel as possible, shim any difference.
  • Angular misalignment between gypsy and anchor no more than 5°.
  • Chain must fall in a vertical line and wind at 90° ±10°; minimum peak depth h: chain > 40 cm, rope > 60 cm.
  • The motor gearbox can be rotated every 45° or 90° depending on type and available space.

Fitting

  1. Drill the holes with the supplied template.
  2. Flange A can be fixed on either side of gearbox B: factory assembly is mode 1; for mode 2 (e.g. interference with the peak) remove screws C and D, turn the gearbox 180° and refit (C and D at 3÷4,5 Nm). Overall dimensions stay the same.
  3. Fit the top (A) and gearbox (B), inserting the shaft through the mounting bracket (C) already fixed to the wall; run the sensor cables (D) through the holes in the bracket and gearbox without damaging them.
  4. Fit the nuts on the studs at the torques below.
  5. Connect the supply cables and sensor cable to the remote switch / reversing contactor unit (wiring diagrams on pages 13–15 of the PDF).

Electrical System

  • Size the motor cable and breaker from the technical data tables: L is the total cable length (L1 + L2 + L3 + L4 + L5 on the diagrams).
  • BL2 P / BL2R P / BL3 P 600W: base system with reversing contactor box T6415-12 (12V) and automatic stop; BL2R uses the T1 thru-hull.
  • BL2 P / BL2R P / BL3 P 900–1200W and BL3 1500W: base system with windlass contactor box 12V – 24V and automatic stop.
  • Control circuit fuse 4A (12V) / 2A (24V); sensor circuit fuse 1A.
  • Controls shown: HRC 1002 push-button panel, 900U & 900D foot switches, RRC radio (R02 receiver, P02 and H02 transmitters), CHC 1203 chain counter, WCS 820 – WCS B control board.
  • Install the reversing contactor box where no water can reach it.

Operation

Weighing and Casting

  • Weighing: engine on, clutch engaged, handle removed, press UP. Watch the last metres of chain to protect the bow.
  • Casting manually: disengage the clutch so the gypsy turns freely; turn the handle counter-clockwise to slow the chain (as printed).
  • Casting electrically: press DOWN for a controlled, even run-out.
  • At anchor, take the load off the windlass with a chain stopper, bollard or a rope.
  • Clutch: handle in the gypsy cover, counter-clockwise disengages, clockwise re-engages.
  • If the windlass stops without tripping the breaker, wait a few seconds and try again (do not hold the button). If the breaker trips, reset it and wait a few minutes. If still blocked, move the boat to free the anchor.

Automatic Free Fall

  • Switch it on or off only with the clutch closed (engaged).
  • On: turn cover A until the hole for pin B faces up, cut power, hold the chain on a stopper, pull knob C until pin B comes fully out, check the clutch is closed, release the chain, restore power.
  • With it active, holding DOWN opens the clutch and the gypsy turns freely; holding UP closes it. Release DOWN once the anchor can fall freely; hold UP to slow or stop it.
  • Off: same steps, but press pin B towards the gypsy centre with a suitable tool. The chain can then be lowered only electrically or manually.

BL2R P Rope Exit and Automatic Stop

  • To change the rope angle: remove pin I and screw H, remove gypsy cover A and gypsy G, remove the 4 screws M and washers L, rotate base plate O to the required position.
  • Automatic stop: weigh the anchor until it seats in the bow roller; with the rode tight, set the stop as close as possible to the thru-hull and fix it (chain: screw and nut; rope: 4 screws). The drawing shows a max 5mm cut.

Keep hands clear of chain and gypsy. Never run the motor with the handle in the gypsy cover, and isolate the motor when working the windlass by hand: remote controls can start it.

Maintenance

  • Power off and take the chain off the gypsy first.
  • Rinse salt deposits off all surfaces regularly with fresh water.
  • Once a year: unscrew the gypsy cover (C) with the lever (A) after removing screw (B); remove the chain stripper retaining screw (D) and the stripper; pull out the gypsy (E).
  • Clean all parts, grease the shaft thread and the gypsy seat of the clutch cone (F) with marine grease.
  • Clean oxide off the remote switch / reversing contactor terminals and grease them.
