In the Box

  • Water heater, floor or wall-mounting brackets (optional for BK2, integrated on BK3), screws and hardware, user's manual, conditions of warranty.

Installation and First Use

  • Dry, well-ventilated place: poor ventilation causes condensation that can look like a leak.
  • Size the mounting for the full weight: empty weight plus about 1 kg (2.2 lb) per litre of water.
  1. Fit the brackets and fix the heater to a flat surface with supports suited to the weight and surface.
  2. Connect tap cold water in, hot water out and (BK2) the engine cooling circuit to the exchanger, keeping that run as short as possible. On the BK3 one hot-water outlet is for vertical position only.
  3. Use Loctite 243, 577 or Teflon on the fittings and check for leaks.
  4. Fit the relief valve stub pipe with its clamp, on a continuous downward slope, protected from ice and left open.
  5. Open the hot taps and run the pump to purge air; close them when only water flows.

Power Supply and Thermostat

  • Never switch on the element unless the heater is full of water.
  • Fit a double pole switch and a fuse suited to the input; at least 3 mm insulation between contacts; follow national wiring standards. Check the supply voltage matches.
  • Wiring diagrams in the PDF: single-phase 2000 watt connection and three-phase 4000 watt connection.
  • Thermostat (electric element only): factory-set to 60°C. Single-phase: power off, remove the protection cover, set the knob with a screwdriver, refit, power on. Three-phase: turn the knob to the desired value.

Maintenance

  • Check the magnesium anode every 12 months and replace it if deteriorated.
  • Drain the heater with the valve lever when unused in the cold season.
  • Periodically check fittings for leaks, fastening screws for wear or corrosion, and the electrical system.
  • Over-temperature reset, single-phase: power off, remove the cover, turn the knob to maximum, press the reset button on the double thermostat, set the temperature, refit and power on. The three-phase thermostat has its own manual reset device.
  • If the safety device trips repeatedly, or the power cable is damaged, contact a Quick service centre.
