Current after an initial period of use; speeds with a gypsy for 12/13 mm chain. Cable section is the minimum for a total run L <20 m; size it for your actual run. DC breakers: specific DC, delayed type (thermal-magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic). AC models are protected by the EC-BOX or inverter.

Before You Drill

  • In the box: windlass (top + gearmotor), reversing contactor box (DC models only), lever, assembly screws, manual, drilling template.
  • Tools: Ø 15 mm (19/32") drill, Ø 40 mm (1" 9/16) hollow mill, 13 mm hex wrench.
  • Recommended: control board, diverter from panel, waterproof push-button panel, foot switch, hydraulic-magnetic breaker, chain counter, RRC radio control.
  • Align the gypsy precisely with the bow roller; a positive tilt up to 10° is allowed.
  • Keep the deck faces parallel; shim if needed.
  • Keep the chain path under deck clear; a shallow peak causes jamming. Chain may tilt up to 5° above deck level; a negative tilt must not touch the windlass base.

Fitting

  1. Drill with the supplied template; clear, finish and smooth the chain/rope hole (marine paint, epoxy resin or gel).
  2. Set the upper part with the gasket between deck and base, fit the motor gearbox flange, then the gearbox, inserting the shaft.
  3. Tighten the nuts on the studs to the torques below.
  4. Electric: connect the supply cables to the remote switch / reversing contactor unit. Hydraulic: connect the distribution valve pipes to the two motor flanges.
  5. The motor gearbox can be turned every 45° or 90° depending on type.

Electrical System

  • DK 3000W: remote switch contact box (24V), L = L1 + L2 + L3 + L4.
  • DK 3500W: remote switch contact box (24V), L = L1 + L2 + L3 + L4 + L5 + L6.
  • Control fuse 2A (24V); breaker per the technical data (100A or 150A Quick).
  • Wiring examples are also given for a 220V single-phase DK 3000W, and for 400V DK 4000W – 5500W with EC-BOX or with inverter (three-phase 200...690 Vac).
  • Install the reversing contactor box where no water can reach it.

Operation

Weighing and Casting

  • Clutch (B) links gypsy and main shaft (A): handle (D) in the gypsy cover (E) or drum bush, counter-clockwise to release, clockwise to re-engage.
  • Weighing: engine on, clutch engaged, handle removed, press UP; watch the last metres to protect the bow.
  • If it stops without tripping, wait a few seconds and retry; if the breaker trips, reset it and wait a few minutes; if still blocked, move the boat to free the anchor.
  • Casting manually: clutch released, slow the chain by turning the brake (C) clockwise. Electrically: press DOWN.
  • At anchor, secure the chain to a strong point so the windlass carries no load.

Drum Use

  • Make the anchor rode fast to a bollard or strong point first.
  • Lock the gypsy with the brake, open the clutch with the lever (at least two bush revolutions counter-clockwise), remove the lever.
  • Wind the rope counter-clockwise on the drum, at least 3 turns, and run the windlass keeping the tail under tension; vary the tension to vary the speed.
  • Finish by tightening the gypsy bush clockwise and making the rope fast.

Keep clear of chain, rope and gypsy. Never power the windlass with the handle in the drum or gypsy cover; isolate it when working by hand.

Maintenance

  • Power off, remove the chain from the gypsy or the rope from the drum, and make the anchor fast.
  • Wash off salt deposits with fresh water regularly.
  • Once a year, drum version: loosen bush (B) with handle (A), pull off drum (C1), remove top clutch cone (D), chain guide cover (E), stripper screws (F) and stripper (G), gypsy (H) and bottom clutch cone (I).
  • No-drum version: remove the gypsy cover (C2) with the handle, then D, E, F, G, H and I as above.
  • Clean, grease the shaft thread and the clutch cone seats with marine grease; clean and grease the motor and contactor terminals.
  • Any disassembly of the motor gearbox by qualified personnel only, with the motor gearbox cold.
