Current after an initial period of use; speeds with a gypsy for 6 mm chain. Cable size is the minimum for a total run L= < 20m: size up for longer runs. Breaker: DC, delayed-action (thermal-magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic). Shafts and studs for thicker decks on request.

Before You Drill

  • In the box: windlass, contactor unit, base gasket, drill template, handle, fasteners, manual.
  • Tools: Ø 6 mm (15/64") and Ø 9 mm (23/64") drills; Ø 48 and Ø 92 mm (3" 1/2) hollow mills; 10 mm and 13 mm wrenches.
  • Recommended: RL control board (mod. 800), HRC1002 hand-held remote, foot switch (mod. 900), hydraulic-magnetic breaker, chain counter CHC1102M / CHC1202M, RRC radio (R02, P02, H02).
  • Align the gypsy with the bow roller; keep the deck faces parallel; deck thickness within the table range.
  • No obstructions under deck for cables and chain; a shallow peak causes jamming. The installation drawing shows 40 cm (16") below deck and a max 5 mm (3/16") gap.

Fitting

  1. Drill the four holes with the drilling template and clear the chain hole.
  2. Lower the windlass into place from above deck with the gasket between deck and base.
  3. Screw the studs into the base by their short threaded end, using a medium-grade thread locker.
  4. Tighten the nuts on the studs.
  5. Connect the supply cables to the reversing contactor.

Electrical System

  • Reversing contactor unit T6415-12 (12V); L = L1 + L2 + L3 + L4 + L5 for cable sizing.
  • Control fuse 4A (12V) / 2A (24V).
  • Controls shown: HRC 1002 hand-held remote, 900U and 900D foot switches, control board mod. 800, chain counters CHC1102 M and CHC1202 M, RRC receiver R02 (2CH).
  • Mount the reversing contactor where water cannot reach it.

Operation

Weighing and Casting

  • Clutch (3) links gypsy and shaft (13 or 17): handle (1) in the gypsy cover (2), counter-clockwise to disengage, clockwise to engage.
  • Weighing: engine on, clutch engaged, handle out, press UP; watch the last metres to protect the bow.
  • If it stops without tripping the breaker, wait a few seconds and retry; if the breaker trips, reset it and wait a few minutes; if still blocked, move the boat to free the anchor.
  • Casting: clutch disengaged for free fall, handle clockwise to slow the chain; or press DOWN for a controlled run-out.
  • At anchor, secure the chain with a rope or stopper.

Drum Use

  • Secure the anchor and chain to a bitt or strong point first.
  • Release the clutch with the handle (at least 2 turns of the bush anticlockwise), remove the handle from the bush (20) on the drum (19).
  • At least 3 turns of rope on the drum; keep hands clear during take up.
  • When done, retighten the clutch clockwise and make the rope fast.

Never run the motor with the handle in the drum or gypsy cover; isolate the motor when working by hand.

Maintenance

  • Power off; take the chain off the gypsy or the rope off the drum.
  • Wash salt deposits off with fresh water regularly.
  • Once a year, all versions: remove the gypsy cover (2) with the handle (1), then the top clutch cone (3); loosen screws (21) and remove the chain stripper (9); pull off the gypsy (4). Clean and grease the shaft thread (13 and 17) and the clutch cone seat (3).
  • Drum: loosen the bush (20) with the handle, pull off the drum (19), clean and grease the shaft (13 or 17).
  • Clean and grease the motor and reversing contactor terminals.

Drilling Template

  • The Eagle 300/500 drilling template (extra download, A3, scale 1:1) shows the stud holes, the Ø92 and Ø48 holes and the bow direction, with a 100 mm / 4" check bar.
  • Print at 100% (no "fit to page") and measure the check bar before drilling.
