Location & Mounting

  • Dry, ventilated area inside the boat, on a level surface without excessive vibration, away from motors and generators and from radio receivers and transmitters.
  • As close to the batteries as possible. At least 5 cm between the inverter (excluding base plate) and walls or objects; do not cover the grilles.
  • Horizontal, or vertical on a bulkhead with the DC terminals facing down (recommended for convection cooling); LEDs visible.
  • Fix with screws able to carry the weight (not supplied). Supplied: inverter, manual, warranty, and RDH1660 remote panel where applicable.
  • Class A product: it may cause radio interference in a domestic environment. Power only from a battery, not from a DC power system.

Battery, Cable & Fuse

Model Battery (min.) DC wire (min.) Fuse
HSI 1208 HR 100 Ah 25 mm2 CNL100DIN
HSI 1212 HR 150 Ah 35 mm2 CNL150DIN
HSI 1216 HR 200 Ah 50 mm2 CNL200DIN
HSI 2408 HR 50 Ah 10 mm2 CNL60DIN
HSI 2412 HR 70 Ah 16 mm2 CNL80DIN
HSI 2416 HR 100 Ah 25 mm2 CNL125DIN
  • Maximum battery-to-inverter cable length 3m; size the cable for no more than 0,4V drop at maximum input current.
  • Fuse on the positive, as close to the battery as possible. Terminal torque 4 - 4,5 Nm.
  • An undersized battery or cable makes the inverter cut out or run intermittently.

DC and AC Connection

  1. Main switch to STBY; battery switch OFF.
  2. Positive cable to the + terminal, negative to the – terminal (check polarity: reversal blows the internal fuse and can seriously damage the unit).
  3. AC output cable: yellow/green ground, brown or black 1 phase, blue or black 2 neutral.
  4. AC safety: ground conductor to the boat's centre grounding point; bond the AC output neutral to ground where local rules or a ground-fault detector require; fit a GFCI breaker in the AC output.
  5. Commissioning: check connections and polarity, battery switch ON, main switch ON, test with an AC load.

Never connect the AC output to a generator, shore line, other inverters in parallel or any equipment that can generate power. Decommission in reverse: STBY, battery OFF, verify DC and AC are dead with a voltmeter.

CAN1 / CAN2 Ports (RJ45)

Pin CAN1 CAN2
1 CANL signal CANL signal
2 CANH signal CANH signal
3 Not connected Reserved
4 Simplified inverter status signal (20 mA max) Reserved
5 Inverter negative Reserved
6 Not connected Reserved
7 Inverter positive (100 mA max.) Not connected
8 CAN bus terminator (120 ohm) CAN bus terminator (120 ohm)
  • Pin 4–5 status: high impedance = off, output disabled or a fault interrupting output; 8 V DC (HSI12xx) or 18,5 V DC (HSI24xx) up to input voltage = on (ON or LP) with no fault.
  • The optional RDH1660 remote panel connects here (see its own manual).

Modes

Status LED Mode (switch) Meaning
Steady green On (ON) Running, no problems, full power available
1 short green flash Low power (LP) LP mode, no problems
2 short green flashes Output disabled (ON/LP) Disabled remotely via CAN bus
1 long green flash Stand-by (STBY) Disabled by the main switch
  • LP mode: below the LP input level the inverter switches to intermittent output after 20 seconds; above the LP output level it returns to continuous output at once.
  • LP input / output levels (set from the RDH1660): 15/35, 20/40 (factory), 25/45, 30/50, 35/55, 40/60, 45/65 VA.

Values are for HSI12xx / HSI24xx. Faults 10–14 are blocking: switch off, remove the cause, switch on again.

Maintenance

  • No special maintenance. Yearly: check wires and connections are intact and tight (qualified staff), and that the unit is dry, clean and its grilles free of dust.
  • Clean with a soft dry cloth, or a cloth dampened with neutral non-abrasive detergent; do not spill liquids on it.
  • Do not open the case (shock risk); opening by unauthorized personnel voids the warranty. Dimensions A 300 mm (11 13/16 inch), B 170 mm (6 11/16 inch), C 80 mm (3 9/64 inch), D 286,5 mm (11 9/32 inch), E 120 mm (4 23/32 inch).
