Technical Data
| Item | KTB4 |
|---|---|
| Supply voltage (1) | from 8 to 30 Vdc |
| Maximum absorption | 60 mA |
| Operating temperature | from –20 to +70° C |
| Dimensions (W x H x D) | 134 mm x 63 mm x 94 mm |
| Weight | 180 g |
| Communication | CAN BUS with differential transceiver |
| EMC class | EN 55022-B |
- (1) The unit can reset itself below 8 Vdc.
- Measures one to four batteries (one KTBS sensor each) and sends the temperatures to the charger, which compensates the charge voltage; up to 32 KTB4 per charger.
- Package: KTB4 interface, KTBS sensor, connecting cable, manual, warranty.
- The compensation graphs (absorption and float, EL and GEL, –40 to 70 °C) are in the PDF.
Location
- Easy to reach, on a clean, smooth, flat surface; do not weaken the boat's structure when drilling.
- Unit at least 25 cm from the compass, 50 cm from radio receivers, 1 m from radio transmitters (2 m from SSB) and 2 m from radar beams.
- Cables at least 1 m from radio signal cables (2 m from SSB transmitter cables).
- KTBS sensors: clean the battery surface, peel the adhesive film and press on for 30 seconds. Not below 10°C battery surface; full adhesion after 72 hours. Positions to avoid are shown in the PDF.
Connections
| Terminal | Signal | Description |
|---|---|---|
| M1 | + V SUPPLY (+) / – V SUPPLY (–) | Instrument power supply |
| M1 | CANH (H) / CANL (L) | CAN interface |
| M2 | SENS1 – SENS4 | KTBS sensors 1 to 4 (no polarity) |
- Fit an on/off switch and a fast-acting 100 mA fuse on the supply.
- CAN data cable: unscreened twisted pair, 0.25/ 0.35 mm2 (AWG 22/24), 100/150 ohm, max 100 meters.
- Activate the CAN termination only on the first and last device on the network.
- Check all connections before powering up.
Dip-Switch Settings
| Switch | Setting | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 1 / 2 | OFF / OFF | Charger group A |
| 1 / 2 | OFF / ON | Charger group B |
| 1 / 2 | ON / OFF | Charger group C |
| 3 | OFF | CAN termination deactivated |
| 3 | ON | CAN termination activated |
| 4 to 8 | Binary (switch 8 = 1, 7 = 2, 6 = 4, 5 = 8, 4 = 16) | KTB4 address 0 to 31 |
Factory setting: group A, CAN termination deactivated, address 0. Several KTB4 in the same group need different addresses.
LED States
| LED | State | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| LINK (yellow) | Off | Interface off |
| LINK | Always on | Connected |
| LINK | Flashing | Unconnected: correct if the charger is off or not in the group; otherwise check the data cable, configuration and CAN termination |
| LINK | Rapid flashing | Dip-switch configuration incorrect |
| SENS (green) | Off | No sensor connected |
| SENS | Always on | Battery temperature between –40° C / +120° C |
| SENS | Flashing | Temperature outside –40°C +120°C; a shorted or open sensor shows "F" on the charger display |
At power-up all LEDs light for two seconds; then the LINK LED of the connected charger stays on.
