Choosing the Position
- Before anything else, check that the chosen position and the boat structure can take and transfer to the hull the loads the gyro generates; if in doubt, have a naval engineer do a structural analysis.
- Dry, clean, ventilated space with no water or splashes; an engine room with acoustic insulation is a good choice. Leave room to remove the cover and reach the connections.
- Install low in the hull, between the stern and the boat's centre of gravity, to limit acceleration loads from wave impacts at speed. The hull plane must be within ± 2 degrees of the waterline and the unit parallel to the transverse axis.
- The FLYWHEEL ROTATION sticker on the cover must face bow or stern, following the drilling template. With several gyros, set them so the flywheels rotate in opposite directions.
- Foundation flatness: not over 1.5 mm from one side to the other (template warning); the planarity tolerances per model are in the manual table.

Forces per fixing point, acting simultaneously, not including the loads from the boat's own motion at sea.
- Fibreglass hulls: laminate the support to the hull; reinforce with aluminium or brass plates in the laminate if needed (example: saddle with brass plate, min. thickness 18 mm (45/64 in)). Aluminium or steel hulls: weld the structure to the hull. Wood: consult the builder or a naval engineer.
- Quick takes no responsibility for the mounting structure, which must be built by a certified installer or yard.
Lifting & Fixing
- Lift only with straps on the supports at the base, using spacers so ropes do not damage cables or connectors (four eye bolts supplied). Remove the crate top, then sides, lift and unscrew the wooden base. Rest it on a shock-absorbing surface; never lift it as in the forbidden example.
- Mark the anchor points with the drilling template supplied. If the silent-block screws are reachable from above, fix the gyro directly; if not, use the optional base plate (OSP).
- Screws/nuts of strength class 10.9 (Grade 8) minimum, washers and Loctite – no lock (grower) washers. Tighten gradually in a criss-cross pattern with a torque wrench.
- Check the screws after about one week (the template says after 50 hours of use) and periodically afterwards for settling.
| Model | Screw | Tightening torque |
|---|---|---|
| X5 – X7 – X10 (base plate) | M8 | 40 N·m |
| X5 – X7 – X10 | M12 | 136 N·m |
| X13 – X16 – X19 | M12 | 136 N·m |
| X25 – X30 (base plate and direct) | M16 | 341 N·m |
| X40 – X56 | M16 | 341 N·m |
Table from the manual. The X13, X16 and X19 data-sheet templates print 130 Nm for the M12 screws, and the X10 base-plate template 39 Nm for M8. The templates in the data sheets are reference drawings; drill from the full-size template supplied with the stabilizer.
Tools: lifting straps, torque wrench, drill with 11 mm (7/16") bit, 17 mm (21/32") fork key, 8 mm (5/16") hex key.
Electrical Connection
- Kit: pre-wired gyro, AC Dynamic Control MC2 driver, 6 m power cable, J1, J2/J4 and J5 CAN BUS extensions (6 m each), templates. Needed but not supplied: RC MC2 R5 QNC remote panel and a differential circuit breaker for the driver.
- Mount the driver vertically with the cable entries at the bottom, at least 10 cm from walls or objects, and far enough from the gyro that its hot air outlet cannot affect the driver.
- Ground the stabilizer motor frame. Do not change the exit position of the pre-wired cables. Always connect driver and stabilizer with the same serial number.
- Do not cut the power while under way at full speed: it would interrupt precession control. The flywheel keeps spinning for up to 1 hour after power-off – never remove a cover until it has stopped.
Commissioning & Start-up
- First start-up and installation validation must be done by Quick-authorised personnel through the guided digital commissioning procedure; the warranty is only active once Quick validates the report.
- Refit all guards and clear the area. Power the driver first, then the remote panel, to avoid a communication error, and start the gyro from the RC panel.
- Remote panel accessories: RC MC²X 5" touch IP67 FQRCMC25690A00; CAN T 5P F/F/F FQCNCFFFRC00A00; CAN 5P F/F FQCNCFF0RC00A00; CAN terminator M12 FQTNCANM1200A00.
Maintenance & Technical Lockout
- Annual service by authorised Quick personnel is mandatory: after 1 year from activation or 1,000 hours of bearing operation, whichever comes first. A reminder appears at the start of the 12th month or at 900h.
- If it is skipped the gyro is derated: start of 13th month / 900h – warning only; 14th month / 1000h – 20% reduction; 15th month / 1050h – 70%; 16th month / 1100h – 100%, not running. Only a Quick service centre can restore it, and the warranty is forfeited.
- Bearings must be replaced after 2,000 hours or within three years. Removing seals or covers voids the warranty.
- Before any work: power off and make sure the flywheel has completely stopped. Clean outside with a soft damp cloth only.
| Check | Interval |
|---|---|
| Driver / display update; corrosion; fastening of sensors and connectors; oil leaks and pressure levels; fastening screws; lubrication and cleaning of bearings; bearing supports; visual check of the flywheel; free-hand flywheel rotation; swivelling fifth-wheel greasing | Every 1000 hours or yearly, whichever comes first |
| Silent blocks; precession sensor belt | 2 years from service |
