In the Box & Tools

  • Electric: windlass (deck unit + motorgearbox), contactor or reversing contactor unit, base gasket, drill template, handle, assembly bolts and screws, manual and warranty.
  • Electric: drill bits Ø 11 mm (7/16") and Ø 19 mm (3/4"); Ø 65 mm (2"1/2) hollow mill; 10, 13 and 17 mm wrenches.
  • Hydraulic: drill bit Ø 15 mm (19/32"); Ø 150 mm (5"29/32) hollow mill; 17 and 19 mm wrenches.
  • Recommended: RL control board (mod. 800), HRC1002 handheld, foot switch (mod. 900), hydraulic-magnetic breaker, CHC1102M / CHC1202M chain counters, RRC R02 / P02 / H02.

Fitting

  • Gypsy aligned with the bow roller; deck faces parallel (or compensated) and deck thickness within the table; nothing obstructing the chain below deck.
  • No flammable materials in the peak or around the motor.
  • Drill four holes with the template, clean and seal the chain hole (marine paint, gel coat or two-pack epoxy), fit the gasket, insert the shaft into the reduction unit, tighten the stud nuts and wire up.
  • Hydraulic: connect the hoses from the selector valve to the hydraulic motor flanges.

Wiring

  • RG5 1700/2000/2300 W: contactor unit T6315-24 (24V); L = L1 + L2 + L3 + L4.
  • RG5 3000 W: reversing contactor unit T6415-24 (24V); L = L1 + L2 + L3 + L4 + L5 + L6.
  • Control fuse 4A (12V) / 2A (24V); hydraulic-magnetic breaker per the data table.
  • 3000 W AC three-phase: 230V motor with FU1 13-25A aM fuses, 400V motor with FU1 8-16A aM fuses (motor max 5,5KW); controls powered from a 24V battery through KM1/KM2 contactors.
  • Hydraulic: selector valve between pressure input, tank and motor; same Quick controls (800 board, HRC 1002, 900 foot switches, chain counters, RRC radio).

Cautions, Use & Troubleshooting

  • Quick windlasses are designed to weigh the anchor only, not to hold loads from storm conditions. Always deactivate the windlass when not in use and check for swimmers before dropping anchor.
  • Fit at least two controls in case one is damaged; use a Quick hydraulic-magnetic (or thermal-magnetic) delayed-action DC breaker as motor protection – it also isolates the control circuit.
  • Mount the (reversing) contactor box where it is protected from water.
  • Once anchored, take the chain onto a chain stopper or bollard; the windlass must never be the only securing device. Isolate it during navigation and secure the chain to a fixed point.
  • Make sure the motor cannot be powered when working the windlass by hand: a remote control (handheld or radio) could start it. Never run it electrically with the handle in the drum or gypsy cover.

Clutch

The clutch cones link the gypsy to the main shaft. Insert the handle in the drum bush or gypsy cover and turn it counter-clockwise to release the clutch; clockwise to re-engage it.

Weighing & Casting

  • Weighing: start the engine, check the clutch is engaged, remove the handle and press UP. Watch the last few metres of chain to avoid damaging the bow.
  • Casting by hand: release the clutch and let the gypsy run; turn the handle clockwise to slow the chain.
  • Casting electrically: press DOWN for a controlled, even release.
  • Once anchored, take the load off the windlass: fasten the chain or secure it to a strong point with a rope.

Troubleshooting

  • Windlass stops but the breaker has not tripped: wait a few seconds and try again – do not keep the button pressed.
  • Breaker tripped: reset it and wait a few minutes before weighing again.
  • Still blocked after several attempts: move the boat to free the anchor.

Maintenance

  • Rinse salt off with fresh water regularly; switch off the motor supply before any manual work.
  • Yearly, drum version: loosen the bush (3) with the handle (1), pull off the drum (4) and top clutch cone (6), loosen screws (18) and remove the chain stripper (19), pull off the gypsy (7).
  • No-drum version: remove the gypsy cover (5) and top cone (6), then the stripper and gypsy as above.
  • Grease the shaft thread (25, 26, 27 or 28) and the gypsy cone seats (6 and 8) with marine grease; clean and grease motor and contactor terminals.
