Installing the Bailer

  1. Choose the location (check class rules if applicable) and mark the outline with the template.
  2. Cut the hole with a jigsaw. Fill and seal the cut surfaces with a waterproofing agent.
  3. Fit the bailer into the hole and mark the mounting holes.
  4. Drill the mounting holes (see table above).
  5. Bed the bailer on a marine-grade sealant or waterproofing product around the contact surface with the hull.
  6. Fasten with the nuts and bolts provided, applying silicon to the bolt holes and using the 1mm or 2mm gasket supplied to suit the hull thickness.
  7. Cut the bolts to length and smooth them after installation.

Cutting and installing through-hull and skin fittings should be done by appropriately skilled or qualified people.

Replacing the Gasket (Service Kit)

  1. Remove the handle by pulling both sides of the wire handle from the black roller at the same time, then remove the roller/strainer from the chute.
  2. Straighten the stopper tab at the rear of the chute with flat-nose pliers. Push the chute out through the hull, making sure the tab does not catch on the back of the base plate.
  3. Remove the old gasket with needle-nose pliers, noting its position: narrow end of the inner rectangle at the front.
  4. Fit the new gasket with the narrow end of the inside rectangle to the front and the chamfered/bevelled edge of the cut-out facing down (to the water, not the cockpit).
  5. Refit the chute: forward end first into the gap left by the gasket, then push the chute body back into the hull. If it will not go, check the stopper tab is straight. Then carefully bend the tab back to its original position.
  6. Refit the roller and wire handle. Compress the handle with multi-grips so the wire sections that bear on the chute housing plates sit inside the inner recessed area when the bailer is locked closed. Lubricate handle, chute and door as required.

Dimensions as printed on the templates (width × height). Pages 4–5 of the template PDF are for the outside-mounted Mini and Large.

The template PDF is drawn at 1:1 on A4. Print it at 1:1 (actual size) and check the printed dimensions before cutting. Use the actual bailer as the guide for the location of the holes to be drilled.
