Functions

  • Water resistant sailing watch: time of day, calendar, time of day alarm, countup (from zero) timer and programmed countdown timer with alarm.
  • The countdown can run to zero and count up again, or run to zero and repeat the programmed period.
  • Buttons: "MODE", "CLEAR", "PROG", "START/STOP" and "SYNC". "MODE" steps through Time, Calendar, Alarm and Timer.
  • Electro-luminescence (E.L.) display: pressing "PROG" in any mode lights the nightlight blue for approx. 3 seconds.

Set Time and Calendar

  1. Press "MODE" until the watch is in time mode (central colon flashing, no countdown icons; AM or PM shown in 12 hour mode).
  2. Hold "CLEAR" approximately 2 seconds until the hour flashes; press "PROG" to set the hour (hold for fast scrolling). "START/STOP" toggles 12/24 hour while the hours flash.
  3. Press "MODE" to confirm each field and move on: minutes, year, month, date – set each with "PROG".
  4. Choose English (date then month, default) or American (month then date) calendar with "START/STOP".
  5. Press "CLEAR" to confirm (or "MODE" to go back to the hours). From time mode, "MODE" shows the calendar for 5 seconds.

Set the Alarm

  1. Press "MODE" again within the 5 seconds the calendar shows: the AL icon comes on.
  2. "START/STOP" switches the alarm on or off; the alarm-on icon stays displayed in every mode while it is on.
  3. Hold "CLEAR" 2 seconds until a beep and the hours flash; set the hours with "PROG" (same 12/24 hour mode as the time).
  4. "MODE" moves to the minutes; set them with "PROG".
  5. Press "CLEAR" to confirm, or "MODE" to go back to the hours.

Countup Option

  1. In timer mode, with the timer stopped, press "CLEAR": the display shows 0:00.
  2. Press "START": the timer counts up from zero in minutes and seconds to a maximum of 59 mins 59 secs; an arrow icon shows count-up.
  3. The count-up can be stopped and restarted as many times as required.

The count-up timer only works when the countdown timer is set to countdown and up, not countdown repeat.

Countdown & Up or Countdown Repeat

  1. Press "MODE" to leave the clock and reach the timer function.
  2. Stop the timer ("START/STOP") and set the display to zero ("CLEAR").
  3. Press and hold "SYNC"; while holding it, press "CLEAR" to toggle between countdown and up and countdown repeat (shown by their icons).
  4. Release "SYNC" to confirm.

Programmed Countdown

Programme Countdown & up Countdown repeat
5,4,1,0 minutes Single period or multiples Single period only
5 minute periods Single period or multiples (e.g. 2 × 5 minutes = 10 minutes) Single period only
3 minute periods Single period or multiples Single period only
1 minute period Single period or multiples Single period or multiples
  • Alarm: a short sound every minute; in the last minute at 50, 40, 30 & 20 seconds, then every one of the last 15 seconds.
  • Choose the programme: timer stopped and at zero, hold "SYNC" and press "PROG"; each press steps 5,4,1,0 → 5 mins → 3 mins → 1 min → 5,4,1,0. The indicators at the top of the display show which programme is selected.
  • Set one period (press "PROG" once) or multiples (press "PROG" several times, countdown and up or the 1 minute programme of countdown repeat), then press "START". The countdown can be stopped and restarted as many times as required.
  • At zero, countdown and up switches to counting up (up arrow icon) to 59 mins 59 secs, then starts at 0:00 again – elapsed race time, useful in handicap racing. Countdown repeat reverts to the programmed time and counts down again.
  • Once the countdown is running only "START/STOP", "SYNC" and "MODE" work. A single beep confirms any button press that has a function.
  • Silence the alarm for visual use only: hold "MODE" for approximately 2 seconds until a short bip; the bell icon disappears. Repeat to switch it back on.

SYNC – synchronising with the starter

  • "SYNC" only works during a running countdown. If you started late, or even missed the preparatory signal, just start the watch and press "SYNC" on the next signal: the display drops to the next full minute (5:08 → 5:00; 3:35 or 3:59 → 3:00) and keeps counting down.
  • The "SYNC" button is deliberately stiffer than the other click-type buttons so it is not knocked by accident.

Changing the Battery

  1. The series 6 watch has a screw-on case back: unscrew it with a special tool (you may need to visit a watchmaker) to reveal the battery.
  2. Lift the protective label over the battery: it is required for insulation and must be refitted after the new battery is in.
  3. Fit a new 3.0 Volt CR2032 Lithium Battery with the +ve contact facing up; do not touch the +ve and -ve contacts at the same time.
  4. Refit the insulating label, check the battery is correctly fitted and the rubber seal is seated; if possible add some silicon grease or Vaseline to the seal.
  5. Screw the case back on with the special tool and make sure it seats properly, or water will leak into the watch.

Removing Links from the Stainless Steel Band

  1. Tool required: 1mm screwdriver or punch.
  2. Removable links are identified by an arrow embossed on the back of the link.
  3. Push out the connecting pin in the direction of the arrow, work out how many links to remove, and push out the second pin the same way.
  4. Discard the un-needed links and rejoin the band by tapping the pin back in the opposite direction to the arrow.
