Ronstan RFC2433-09 Removable Screw-In Padeye Anchor Device — User Instructions

Certification & System

  • Certified to European Standard EN795:2012, Type A (personal fall protection equipment – anchor devices), single person use only.
  • Certified to Australian Standards AS1891.4:2009 and AS5532:2013 for single point anchorages, free fall-arrest, single person use only.
  • For attaching personal fall protection components (harnesses, lanyards, fall arresters) in accordance with EN363 and/or AS1891.1 or AS1891.3, e.g. when working outside conventional guardrails for cleaning and maintenance. Not for lifting equipment or any other purpose.
  • Each harness or device must be secured to a separate attachment point. In a fall arrest system the user must have a means of limiting the maximum dynamic force on the user to 6KN.

Two parts

  • Structural anchor base (A): permanently fastened to the structure with 4 fasteners. A threaded plug stays in the base when the anchor is removed, keeping dirt and grit out of the threads.
  • Screw-in anchor (B): threads into the base on a central spigot; single U-piece attachment point for personal protection equipment; identification plate.
  • Locking screw (C): anti-rotation screw that must be engaged once the anchor is fully threaded in, so it cannot unintentionally detach.
  • Grade 316 stainless steel base, anchor and locking screw.

Mounting Orientation & Design Loads

  • The base can be mounted in a vertical plane (0°), a horizontal plane (90°) or at any incline between 0° and 90° (deck, vertical or ceiling mounting).
  • Ideally mount the screw-in anchor vertically for best lanyard alignment; load must be in line with the U-piece.
  • Maximum loads transmitted from the anchor device to the structure, as shown in the manual: 12KN load at 16mm from the mounting face, giving a moment M=192Nm and a reaction of Fy=3KN in each fastener.
  • The structure holding the fasteners must be stiff enough that neither fastener nor structure fails at these loads; verify by calculation and post-installation testing at a minimum. Some jurisdictions require a pre-installation test on a prototype or mock-up.
  • Consider galvanic compatibility between fastener and structure; isolation may be required.

Installation

Installation only by competent persons or organisations.

Fasteners

  • 4 × M6 hexagon socket countersunk head, stainless steel A4-70 DIN7991 screws (not supplied), minimum tensile strength 700MPa.
  • Torque no more than 7.1Nm, as per industry standard.

Procedure

  1. The device is supplied assembled with the locking screw in place. Mark the outer edge of the base with a pen to show the U-piece orientation when the anchor is fully threaded in.
  2. Remove the M4 locking screw with a 2.5mm hex key and unthread the anchor; the plastic plug stays in the base thread.
  3. Using the base as a template, drill a clearance hole for the base spigot so the base sits flush with the mounting surface. For vertical mounting, put the pen mark at 12 o'clock so the U-piece runs 12 to 6 o'clock.
  4. Check the locking screw can be fixed to the base with the U-piece in the right orientation.
  5. Mark the 4 fastener holes using the base as a template and fix the base permanently.
  6. Thread the anchor in, engaging the slot in the plastic plug when starting. When fully home, fit the locking screw with a drop of low strength thread lock; do not over-tighten (hex socket damage).
  7. If the identification plate is not accessible and clearly visible after installation, add marking near the device.

Testing

  • Post-installation: before first use, load each anchor with 6kN on the lanyard attachment point for a minimum of 15 seconds, then follow the annual inspection procedure. Record results in Appendix B (Equipment Record) and the Chief Installer's Installation Declaration (Appendix A).
  • Periodic: same 6kN / 15 seconds test for each anchor; in the absence of other regulations, at intervals of not more than five years. Record results and follow the annual inspection.
  • Apply any standards or regulations for your jurisdiction, industry or application on top of this minimum.

Inspection

  • Before each use (user): 4 base fasteners in place, fully tight and secure; anchor fully threaded home; locking screw secured; lanyard attachment point free from deformation (deformation means overload – replace); no excessive wear, corrosion, deformation or breakage.
  • Annually (competent person): the above, plus the male thread of the anchor may be lubricated with light grease; replace the locking screw if its thread is damaged or worn. Appendix C lists the full annual inspection and revision procedure, including checking the dust cover and lightly greasing the locking screw head before refitting with low strength thread lock.
  • Remove from service if in doubt or if any part is damaged; no use until repaired and approved in writing by a competent person. After any fall, inspection and written confirmation are required before reuse.
  • No alterations without the manufacturer's prior written consent. Contact the manufacturer if the identification plate is missing or illegible.

Use, Maintenance & Records

  • Only trained, competent persons who have read the user manual may use the system; have a rescue plan in place.
  • Use only with personal protective equipment approved to relevant standards. Never rely on only one attachment point.
  • Loosen or remove the locking screw only for inspection and maintenance; it must be fully engaged (with a drop of low strength thread lock) whenever the anchor is in use.
  • Rinse all components regularly with fresh water.
  • The identification plate shows the standard (EN795:2012 Type A), part number and serial number; quote these in all communication with the manufacturer. Keep the installation documentation on site and give copies to the user.
  • Keep a record for each anchor device: the PDF includes the Installation Plan and Declaration (Appendix A), the Equipment Record (Appendix B) and the Annual Inspection and Revision sheet (Appendix C).
