Seldén supplies pre-spliced endless lines in various lengths. Normally the line is led aft to the cockpit; a short endless line can be worked on the foredeck. A longer line works better, as residual friction in the line pulled forward helps full engagement in the line driver.

1. Fitting the Endless Line

The sail must be disconnected.

  1. Pull the red lanyard and remove the wedge-shaped divider. Rotate until the notches in the stainless line guard and the line driver align.
  2. Feed the endless line through the line guide and up through the central notch.
  3. Holding one side of the line in the line-driver notch, rotate it with the line driver a full circle, checking it stays in the notch (slight compression of the line is normal).
  4. Remove twists or kinks, then refit the divider wedge.

Removing: reverse of the fitting sequence.

2. Line Guide

The line guide adjusts through 360° in 4x90° steps: loosen set screw (B) a few turns and rotate the line guide assembly. Apply locking adhesive, align the set screw with hole (C) in the shaft and tighten until it bottoms out – do not over-tighten.

The lower unit is supplied without locking adhesive on the set screw to make alignment easier: apply locking adhesive even if no adjustment is needed.

Unrolling the Sail

Typically: slacken the endless line completely and pull on the sheet – the system turns freely and the sail unrolls fully.

For a controlled unroll, keep the forward loop on the line-driver teeth: take a turn of the line that will be pulled forward round a winch and hold the other side; as the crew pulls the sheet, ease the winch line and take in the slack on the other side. This depends on crew technique and is not guaranteed.

Once the system unrolls at speed, do not try to use the endless line as a brake.

Rolling, Pins & Care

  • Rolling: keep the forward loop on the line-driver teeth by keeping some tension in the line pulled forward, letting it slip slowly through a crew's hand.
  • Pin removal: pull the locking spring's red lanyard to release the head and tack pins.
  • Care: rinse with fresh water, let dry and store aboard, preferably with the sail.
