Marine grade stainless; the installer rates them for the winch loads. Line entry 5-10°.

Mounting the E-Winch

  1. Mark the centre from the template and cut the large hole: Selden recommends a ø 102-105 mm hole saw.
  2. Feed cables and motor pack through; remove top cover (winch tool), self-tailing arm, locator bracket and drum, leaving the roller bearings on the base.
  3. Set the S-winch base on the motor pack, orient it for the load side, then lift the base off without moving the motor pack.
  4. Mark the fastening holes using the motor pack as template; drill, countersink the tops, tap if threading.
  5. Seal fasteners and the motor-pack contact face with a non-hardening compound (e.g. Butyl) – no glue.
  6. Fit the motor pack (hold the screws, turn the nuts); bolt the winch base to it with the supplied fasteners.
  7. Refit drum, locator bracket and arm with the line stripper captive under the arm; tighten the top cover with the winch tool.
  8. Connect the three motor-pack cables (grey, brown, orange) to the terminals marked on the MCU. Use the correct MCU for that winch.

Electric

  • 2-3 turns, then over the arm into the jaws.
  • Button "1" low speed, "2" intermediate, "1" + "2" high speed.
  • Turn off SEL-Bus power when not in use; fit an easily reached emergency stop.

Manual

  • Works as a full 2-speed S-winch, powered or not.
  • Handle anti-clockwise = high gear; clockwise = low gear.

Trouble Shooting

Problem Cause Action
Loss of self-tailing Line not seated; too few turns; wrong line size Re-seat the line; add turns; use the line size in the data table
Not ratcheting Ratchet gears reassembled wrongly; maintenance due Flip the ratchet gears to match pawl engagement; service the winch
No response to push-buttons Power off, emergency stop, SEL-Bus main fuse or network fuses, SEL-Bus error, faulty installation Switch on; reset the stop; check fuses and the MCU/PSU LED codes; check cables and button configuration (597-275)

Yearly S-Winch Service

  1. Remove top cover, arm, locator bracket and drum (bearings stay on the base).
  2. Remove roller bearings, drum washer and drive shaft (O-ring friction lock), then the two gear shafts and gear assemblies – mind the washers.
  3. Clean in white spirits; oil the pawls, lightly grease gear teeth and small hubs; grease shafts and the drum's internal gear.
  4. Do not grease the roller bearings. Reassemble with the line stripper captive.

Yearly Motor Pack Service

  1. Remove the winch base from the motor pack.
  2. Remove locking ring, washer, gear, pawls and springs; then the top-plate fastener and top plate.
  3. Remove the ratchet hub (and shaft on E46-E66 – not on the E40). No degreaser on parts left in the base plate.
  4. Grease shaft and gears generously, refit the top plate; oil the pawls (not grease). Replace a deformed locking ring.

Extended motor-pack maintenance every five years by a technician: manual 597-990.
