Splicing an Endless Line
The sheet has no text – follow the numbered drawings in the PDF. What they show:
- Tools: splicing needle (an alternative needle is shown), screwdriver, marker pen, knife, whipping twine, tape and scissors. With both parts of the line rove and stopper-knotted at the blocks, mark each free end (P and S): a at 30 cm from the end, b a further 30 cm along, and the line continuing 40 cm beyond b as drawn. Cut the ends.
- Open the cover at b on each part (detail shows the core being drawn out).
- Feed one end into the other part between the marks a and b (3a); detail 3b and the alternative show the end worked in 2,5 cm past the mark.
- Steps 4 and 5: work S and P through so the marks a meet, each tapered out 2,5 cm beyond b (alternative method shown with a screwdriver).
- Step 6: the detail shows a 12 cm section of the splice locked with a needle and stitches.
- Step 7: work the cover by hand along the splice.
- Step 8: tension the line.
- Step 9: cut off the tails with knife or scissors.
Drawing-only instructions: if in doubt, use the figures in the PDF as the reference.
