Locking the Universal-Joint Screws
Discontinued model — documents and spare parts as printed.
Selden recommends improving the locking of the screws holding the furling system's universal joints together. You need an Allen key #10 (M12), a little methylated spirits and some Sikaflex.
- Identify the system: open the upper access-hole cover and measure the luff extrusion – RC is 40mm, RD is 60mm diameter.
- Check screw A is properly tight. RC: reached through the hole in the housing upper attachment flange (hydraulic system) or through the hole in the side of the mast (manual system). RD: through the hole in the motor-housing upper attachment flange.
- Turn the extrusion 180° so the protruding screw threads are visible.
- Clean the threads and the area round the threaded hole with methylated spirits.
- Apply Sikaflex to the cleaned area.
- RC only: repeat for screws B, C and D, reached through the sail opening. Screw D is hard to tighten, but the Sikaflex gives a fully acceptable lock.
