Luff Extrusion Tension
- The luff extrusion is always correctly tensioned at manufacture; a correctly tensioned extrusion makes reefing and setting the sail easier.
- Under sail the extrusion is pulled aft and, correctly tensioned, rests largely on the after face of the sail chamber.
- Re-adjustment is not normally needed – only if the tension seems too slack.
Do not over-tension the extrusion: you may overload the system.
Tensioning the Extrusion
- Mainsail removed. Lift off the covers: press in one of the buttons and push, lift the opposite end and pull.
- Loosen the lock screw enough to free the locking sleeve.
- Push the locking sleeve up level with the upper opening; put in your left hand and grip it firmly.
- Turn the tensioning screw with a winch handle in the drive unit (reefing winch). When the locking sleeve slips in your hand, the luff extrusion is acceptably tensioned.
- Adjust the turn so the locking sleeve can be drawn down over the bottom of the luff extrusion.
- Pull the locking sleeve down to the locking position.
- Tighten the lock screw to hold it.

Measure the force on the winch handle with a spring balance. The table also lists Furlex Main 76 and Furlex Main 90.
