Tools: pencil, jigsaw, ruler, half round file, drill, pop rivet gun, hammer, mandrel, plus the drill bit and hole saw above.

Location on the Mast

  • Exits at least 300 mm apart vertically to keep the mast strong; one exit each side at the same level is acceptable.
  • As a spinnaker halyard inlet: 500-1000 mm below the headbox, 12-30 mm from the mast front line, 250 mm apart vertically (24 mm exit: 500-1400 mm below the headbox, 12-50 mm from the front line).

Fitting Procedure

  1. Draw a line parallel to the mast axis and mark the two holes for each fitting.
  2. Pre-drill with the rivet-size drill bit.
  3. Open the holes with the hole saw.
  4. Draw straight lines between the holes, one each side, touching their edges; check the spacing equals the part of the fitting that goes into the slot.
  5. Saw along the inner edges of the lines so the slot matches the fitting's lugs; file smooth without notches.
  6. Insert the fitting the right way up (UP/DOWN on the drawing) and push it upward so its upper end is held by the mast wall.
  7. Drill for the pop rivet using the fitting as a jig; pull the rivet and knock out the mandrel.
