Which Selden adaptor to use when fitting a new Selden hydraulic vang or backstay / halyard tensioner to an existing hose system with 7/16"-20 JIC 37° couplings.

Pairing an Existing Hose System with a Selden Cylinder
When you replace an old cylinder with a new Selden vang or tensioner on a boat with a working hydraulic system, you usually need an adaptor between the Selden cylinder and the existing high-pressure hose. The most common connection in the marine industry is the 7/16"-20 JIC 37° coupling (e.g. Navtec, Sailtec, Holmatro systems with a 7/16"-20 JIC 37° female coupling). Selden cylinders use 1/8" couplings.
Backstay or Halyard Tensioner HT-W8/10 and HT-W12/14
Use a Selden adaptor hose: a flexible hydraulic hose with couplings fitted – 1/8" BSP female at the tensioner, 7/16" JIC male to the existing hose.
| Art. No. | Adaptor angle | Length (mm) | Description | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 540-965-515 | 0° | 300 | Adapter hose 1/4", BSP 1/8" female 0° – JIC 7/16-20 male | Ask us to source it → |
| 540-965-517 | 45° | 300 | Adapter hose 1/4", BSP 1/8" female 45° – JIC 7/16-20 male | Ask us to source it → |
| 540-965-518 | 90° | 300 | Adapter hose 1/4", BSP 1/8" female 90° – JIC 7/16-20 male | Ask us to source it → |
Hydraulic Vang HV-46, HV-69, HV-89
Unscrew the standard 1/8" male coupling from the vang and replace it with a male/male adaptor for a 0° coupling. Add the 90° adaptor if required.
