Selden Mast Climbing Steps — Instructions

Operation

  • Designed for one person only. Maximum load is 140 kg.
  • Spring loaded against rattling and accidental opening. To open: lift lugs A and fold out, or push the plate at point B (hand or foot).
  • Use in addition to, never instead of, your normal safety equipment for working aloft. Always use a harness.
  • These instructions do not apply to carbon spars.

Foldable Step 508-077-01

  1. Spacing is chosen individually; Selden's standard placement is 420 mm apart.
  2. Hold the step in position and mark the three holes. The step level is 30mm above the lower attachment hole.
  3. Drill ø5mm and tap M6.
  4. Fit with locking adhesive, firmly but not overtightened. The two top screws can only be fitted with the step opened.

Older Riveted Step (595-001-SE)

  • Tools: drill, ø 6,5-6,7mm bit, heavy duty rivet gun for ø 6,4mm (1/4") rivets, hammer, mandrel max. ø 3,5mm.
  • Mark each step clear of spreaders and fittings; use the step as a drilling jig.
  • Fit step and support provisionally to check the step is horizontal; adjust the support hole if not.
  • Use the supplied monel pop rivets (stainless also OK). Never aluminium rivets (too weak) or screws (corrosion destroys the threads).
