* One or two conduits depending on the type of yacht. Conduit 535-673 gives 53x14/18 and 535-709 gives 45 x 19 of space. Sections before 2003: use instruction 595-557-E "K 13" (main download).

Feeding the Cable

  1. Use the existing messenger line(s). If missing, fit one with a conduit feeder, or with the mast stepped by lowering a small weight (a nut) from the mast head to the heel.
  2. Taper the cable end, tie multiple clove hitches around it and tape to a conical transition.
  3. Tie on a new messenger line to leave in the mast for future use.
  4. Stretch the existing cables; pull the new one through, lubricated with silicone or Teflon spray.
  5. If existing cables still hinder, remove them (each with a new messenger) and refeed all cables one at a time.

Notes

  • Equipment: cable, messenger line (Ø3-4mm, length = mast length), tape, silicone or Teflon spray, a nut.
  • On keel-stepped masts the conduit passes through the internal seal.
  • Some deck-stepped masts lead cables into the boat through a cable hose in the centre of the mast base – see the separate section in 595-966-E.

Sections Before 2003 (595-557-E)

Instruction Sections Method
1A "D" and "E" sections with separate conduits Drill exit hole approximately 50 mm (2") below the headbox cut-out, side opposite the main halyard; draw cable up from the heel; wedge it with 20x20x20 mm closed-cell foam pads, one every 60 cm (2'). Drill bit approx. 4 mm larger than the cable.
1B "D" and "E" sections with track for plastic conduits Feed through the conduits with the messenger line (Ø 3-4 mm, length = mast length); leave a new messenger in place.
2 "E" sections with track for plastic conduits and double mark lines Two cables of max. Ø 9 mm glued in the corners of the sail track (Cascol 1809), passing the track gate through holes above and below it.
3 E-sections with rounded after face Cable glued along the whole sail track with Cascol 1809; mast angled on two supports.
4 Furling sections Feed through conduits with the messenger; exit holes possible on 232/126 and upwards. On 190/94-214/122, 235/116 cables lie free in the forward chamber, stretched hard.

Gluing: indoors or in dry weather, allow 24 hours before moving the mast; Cascol 1809 foams, so do not overdose. On keel-stepped masts the sail track and conduits are sealed with silicone at the top edge of the mast coat: remove and replace the seal.

Radar Cable into Cable Conduit (595-299-E)

  1. Mast side up; mark the exit height, not closer than 150 mm from any other fitting.
  2. Measure from the B-line: aft for a C-mast, forward for an F-mast (table 1 in the PDF).
  3. Drill Ø 6,5 mm through mast wall and conduit at the correct angle, then enlarge to Ø 25 mm – do not drill too deep.
  4. Twist out the conduit remains with pointed pliers, grind the edges inside the conduit and both sides of the mast wall, blow clean and wipe with mild detergent.
  5. Fit a messenger line and pull the cable through.
