Calculating XL

Section Extrusion length XL
72/72 L-(90+155)
84/84 L-(110+155)
96/96 L-(215+195)
99/99 L-(215+195)

The kit comes with the outboard end attached and the inboard end loose, the release line threaded to show the final arrangement.

Tools: hacksaw, hammer, mandrel (max. diam. ø3,5mm), drill, ø6,5mm bit, rivet gun, file, slotted screwdriver, pencil, centre punch, torch, tape, measuring tape.

Assembly

  1. Remove the inboard end fitting and any adaptor; mark XL square (paper or the enclosed drilling jig wrapped round the tube) and cut; chamfer without damaging line and cord.
  2. 96/96 and 99/99: note how release line and lift-retract messenger pass through the inboard end before pulling them out.
  3. Re-attach the line (and rubber cord), refit the inboard end and check its position against the outboard end.
  4. Fit the lift eye with the supplied rivets over its self-adhesive insulating sheet (holes pre-drilled).
  5. Mark the inboard end holes per PS736, drill (ø 4,9mm for 72/72 & 84/84, ø 6,5mm for 96/96 & 99/99) and fix temporarily with unpulled rivets; remove, clean out debris, then rivet for good and clear the mandrels through the outboard drain hole.
  6. Release line: red ball approx. 200 mm outside the fitting, locked with a stopping knot buried in the ball.
  7. 96/96 and 99/99: tension the rubber cord to slight resistance, pull a further 500mm, mark, cut and knot on the ring.
  8. Slide the inboard savers into place and lock them by deforming the groove ends with a screwdriver.
