Fitting & Harness Use

Fitting

  • Put on as a jacket and fasten the button.
  • Pull the chest belt tight: it is unsafe to wear any lifejacket or harness loosely.
  • Adjust the back strap so the chest belt sits above the lowest point of the rib cage.
  • Attach the thigh straps, passing the crotch straps through the legs before fastening the plastic buckles at the front. Crotch straps convert to thigh straps.
  • Shoulder Fit System gives 3D adjustment; back adjustment reduces pressure on the neck.

Deck Harness

  • The anchorage point is the safety line attachment loop at the centre of the chest (high-tensile fibre).
  • Use only an approved personal safety line; check there are no sharp edges at the attachment point.
  • Attach to jacklines or fixed eyes able to withstand more than 1 tonne. Never to lifelines or standing or running rigging.
  • The harness prevents falling overboard; it gives no protection against falls from height and may transmit very large forces.
  • After a major fall (full body weight dropped and stopped), stop using the product even if no damage is visible.

Inflating & Deflating

Inflation

  • Automatic: inflates within seconds of the inflator being submerged.
  • Manual: pull the rubber handle sharply downwards.
  • Oral: open the zip at the yellow breakout point, remove the end cap and blow.
  • Temperature changes may need oral top-up, especially after prolonged immersion. Below freezing, top up orally after the CO2 has discharged (not before).
  • Firing the CO2 into an already fully inflated jacket can over-pressurise and damage it.
  • Firing head indicator (UML Pro Sensor and Hammar pictograms): green is correct, red is not; re-arm before use.

Fitted Equipment

  • Pylon light with 23 cm elevation, activates on contact with water.
  • Sprayhood, structured to stand free of the face.
  • Emergency safety line cutter in a snag-free pouch; whistle; lifting loop (also a buddy loop in the water).
  • CRC-coated cylinder; QBZ split zip for access to the oral tube; chest pack attachment points.
  • Deflate: invert the oral tube end cap into the valve and squeeze until empty, then return the cap.

Repacking

  • Separate the zip chain at the yellow end section, release the press studs and pull the zips out.
  • Concertina the bladder onto itself. UML Pro Sensor: place the firing head in the yellow mesh pocket. Hammar: keep a smooth run for the manual lanyard.
  • Check the cylinder is tight and the firing cap secure.
  • Concertina the top in, re-attach the zips on the firing-head side and run the zip round to close; fasten the flap across the breakout point with the firing head aligned in the window.
  • On Hammar Deckvests the zip starts on the opposite side.

Maintenance & Care

Three-Level Routine

  • During use: check buckles and fastenings regularly.
  • Before and after use: check for damage, abrasion, wear, tears or contamination, especially stitching and webbing.
  • Every three months: fabric check; inflate orally until firm and leave 24 hrs (loss of firmness = leak, unsafe); oral valve under water; remove and inspect all components.
  • If a leak persists or you are in doubt, have it professionally serviced before use. No modification or repair except by Spinlock Ltd.

Care & Life

  • Remove the cylinder and automatic components, hand-wash and rinse in fresh water at max. 30° C, dry in a cool, ventilated, dark room. Carry and store it in a well-ventilated bag.
  • Use between -30° C and +60° C.
  • Shelf life up to 5 years before first use; 5 years after first use.
  • Treat all chemicals as harmful and report contact to Spinlock.
  • Some dye may transfer when first used wet: avoid light-coloured jackets at first.
  • Five-year warranty when registered online as first owner (register within 30 days).
