Approvals and Specifications

Model Approval Minimum buoyancy CO2 cylinder
DURO FC 170N (38lb) ISO 12402-3 :2020 – 150N Lifejacket 150N 33g
DURO FC 275N (68lb) ISO 12402-2 :2020 – 275N Lifejacket 275N 60g
  • Both models also carry ISO 12402-6 :2020 – Special Application Lifejacket: user assisted PFD without cylinder seal indicator, so the cylinder must be checked before each use.
  • Firing unit: UML Pro Sensor Elite or UML Mk5 automatic firing head; manual activation handle and oral inflation tube on both.
  • Colours: Fluro Orange or Black.
  • For users aged above 16 years and weighing not less than 50kg. Chest size: 60-175cm on the product label; the fitting page shows chest size max 145cm (as printed).
  • Use only between -30° C and +60° C.
  • Service life in general 10 years; Spinlock does not service lifejackets more than 10 years old.

Features

  • Front opening with heavy-duty buckle, shoulder fit system and smooth body adjuster system.
  • Quick Burst Zip with indicator window; manual activation handle; oral inflation tube and whistle.
  • 40mm extra wide crotch strap; highly visible red lifting strap; ID / asset track pocket; chest pack attachment points.
  • Extra durable cover materials; compatible with the Pro-Tech protective cover (optional).
  • Optional: Ocean Signal AIS MOB1 unit, Pylon lifejacket light, sprayhood, Lume-On lifejacket illumination lights.

Fitting

  1. Put on over your head.
  2. Fasten the side clip.
  3. Pull the chest belt tight – it is unsafe to wear any lifejacket loosely.
  4. Attach the crotch strap, passing it through the legs before fastening the plastic buckle in the pocket on the front.

Spinlock recommends always using the crotch strap; the lifejacket is tested and approved without it at your own risk. When not correctly fitted, the Deckvest may not perform as a lifejacket.

Inflating

Method How
Manual Sharply pull the rubber handle downwards; the CO2 cylinder inflates the bladder within seconds.
Oral Open the zip at the yellow breakout point on the front panel, remove the end cap and blow into the tube until fully inflated.
Automatic Inflates within seconds of the inflator being submerged: the automatic capsule releases a sprung pin that punctures the CO2 cylinder.

Below freezing even a fully charged cylinder may not inflate the jacket adequately: top up with the oral tube after the CO2 has been discharged (and not before). Topping up may also be needed after prolonged immersion.

Deflating and Testing

  • Deflate: invert the oral-tube end cap, insert it into the valve, hold it there and gently squeeze out all air or gas; return the cap to its normal position.
  • Do not fire the CO2 into a jacket that is already fully inflated: it can over-pressurise and damage it.
  • Test in shallow water or a pool, just deep enough for your head to be above the surface: automatic inflation should be complete within five seconds of water contacting the firing head.
  • For an oral-only test, remove the cylinder and automatic capsule (firing head) before entering the water – no re-arm kit needed.
  • After testing deflate fully with the oral inflator and let the Deckvest dry thoroughly, away from direct heat.

Re-arming and Repacking

  1. Remove the cylinder and old firing cap by unscrewing anti-clockwise.
  2. Check the firing mechanism moves freely and is free from contamination.
  3. Fit the new cap first, then the new cylinder, ensuring a secure fit.
  4. Check / replace the green manual-pull indicator clip if required (Mk5).

Cylinder size: 33g for the 170N, 60g for the 275N. Unscrew the threaded end of the CO2 cylinder and confirm it is unused. A new automatic cartridge should have an expiry date at least 2 years away.

Repacking

  1. Remove all air and check the cylinder is not pierced before refitting.
  2. Run the zip slider round to the wearer's left side and re-attach the zips.
  3. Concertina the bladder onto itself so the manual lanyard runs smoothly; place the firing head in the mesh pocket.
  4. Concertina the top in, then run the zip round to close, fasten the flap across the breakout points, tuck the handle into its holder and the zip ends under.

Owner Checks

  • During use: check buckles and other fastenings regularly.
  • Before and after use: look for damage, abrasion, wear, tear or contamination, especially stitching and webbing; check the cylinder is tight and not pierced.
  • Annually: inspect the fabric; inflate through the oral tube until firm and leave 24hrs – any loss of firmness means a leak and the jacket is unsafe; check the oral valve under water; remove and inspect all components.
  • Clean by hand with the cylinder and automatic components removed; rinse in fresh water (maximum 30° C); dry in a cool, ventilated dark room. Store in a well ventilated bag away from direct light.
  • Any modification or repair is forbidden unless carried out by Spinlock Ltd.

Service Centre Checks

  • Bladder test: cylinder and firing cap removed, inflate with clean dry air to approx. 2 psi (14 kPa), cap off; leave 24 hrs at stable temperature. More than a slight softening (approx. 10%) = replace the bladder.
  • Firing mechanism tightened to the manifold at 3Nm with a calibrated torque driver; cutting pin and indicator pin must move freely; gasket or O-ring in place.
  • Cylinders: check gas and size on the label (33g for 170N, 60g for 275N) and total weight against the bottle stamp; slight marking is acceptable, deteriorated coating with corrosion = replace.
  • Pro Sensor: both indicators green. Mk5: green retaining clip over the firing arm. Cylinder tightened firmly by hand.
  • Jackets over 10 years old should not be serviced.

Pylon Light

Item Value
Flash intensity 0.75 candela minimum
Flash rate 50-70 per minute
Activation Automatically in water
Approvals Latest SOLAS/MED
Expiry 5 year life; replace at expiry date

Press and hold the button for 3 seconds to test; it switches off automatically out of the water. Replacement light for all Deckvest models: DW-PY/L1. The stalk curves inwards, Spinlock logo outside.

Lume-On and MOB1

  • Lume-On: water-activated LED lights bonded to the underside of the bladder; battery life 6 hours (minimum 2 hours flashing at full intensity).
  • Bladder must be clean and thoroughly dry; place each light clear of toggles, straps and folds where it will be in the water; leave 24 hours before repacking.
  • Ocean Signal MOB1: fit the ribbon so it is no longer than the bladder weld-to-weld length, leaving roughly 60mm of tail; secure the safety lanyard to the lower right bladder toggle webbing so the unit stays attached on inflation.
