Spinlock ZXB Jammer — Instructions

Installation

Mounting

  • On deck, fit the jammer forward of the winch, close enough to work the toggle and latch, with room behind it to remove the jaw assembly for maintenance.
  • Supplied with M10 socket countersunk fasteners (A4-70 stainless): you need a 6 mm Allen key and a 17 mm spanner.
  • Side mounting: needs a custom mounting plate; ask Spinlock.
  • Mast mounting: mount as standard; the externally located fasteners allow direct mounting into blind holes.
  • Not designed for high side loads: if the lead to the winch is more than 10°, fit lead blocks or organisers (such as the Spinlock TSR high-load range) aft of the jammers.

Main Dimensions (line drawing, not to scale)

  • Fixing centres 195 mm; body ends 16 mm and 14 mm beyond the fixings.
  • Base length 225 mm; height 89 mm; width 34 mm.
  • Fixing boss height 31 mm; toggle pulls back on an 82 mm radius, 67 mm above the base.
  • Use the drill guide for the fastener positions, not the line drawing.

Using the ZXB

  • 1. Open: pull the toggle out until the latch button clicks up. The latch must be fully engaged to hold the jaws open; the rope then runs freely both ways.
  • 2. Lock: hoist and tension on the winch. Before easing, press the latch button to let the jaws engage the rope, then ease the load off the winch. The jaws slide with the loaded rope to secure it.
  • 3. Re-open: return the full load to the winch first. Only then pull the toggle and jaws back until the latch button engages; the rope can then be run from the winch.
  • Safety feature: a ZXB can only be released after the rope load is on the winch.

Remote Operation Set-Up

  • Remove the jaw set.
  • With a screwdriver, carefully prise the rear clip of the lower jaw to lift the jaw grip.
  • Make a 50 mm loop in 2 mm cord. Pass it through the square hole at the bottom of the rear cover, then through the clip on the lower jaw.
  • Hook the loop over the round peg in the lower jaw.
  • Snap the jaw grip shut onto the lower jaw. If the lower jaw has come away from the assembly, hook the front of the jaw grip into the slot at the front of the lower jaw, checking alignment.
  • Refit the jaw set in the body, pushing the staple into place, then press the latch button to free the latch mechanism.

Maintenance & Safety

Servicing

  • Flush regularly with fresh water; the jaws remove easily for inspection.
  • Replace the jaws if the grip surface is excessively worn.
  • White bearing surfaces and internal faces must be clean and smooth; replace if necessary.
  • The white jaw bearings need no lubrication: keep them free of dirt and debris with fresh water.

Safety (as printed)

  • Check the jammer is correctly specified for your load and line size, and correctly installed before the first loaded use.
  • Braided fibre rope only: never three-strand or wire rope.
  • Never use it damaged or worn, or with damaged rope. Do not modify any part.
  • Never use cleaning or lubricating solvents, polysulphide or polyurethane sealants.
