INSTALLATION MANUAL

Wiring of push buttons and status LEDs, switch-on, group codes, factory reset, LED meanings and CAN-bus fault finding for the Vetus CANVXCSP interface that lets momentary push buttons (e.g. on an engine control lever) run a BOWPRO thruster at full thrust.

Buttons and LEDs

  • Push buttons: momentary, normally open (NO); pressing a button gives maximum thrust. LEDs: 5 V, 40 mA (max).
  • Mount the interface out of sight in a ventilated place.
  • The supplied harness serves a bow thruster (wires to pins 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14):
Cable label Pins / colours Connects
BOW PB-1 2 (brown), 10 (white) Button 1
BOW PB-2 3 (yellow), 11 (green) Button 2
BLUE LED 1 (–, grey), 13 (+, pink) Blue status LED
RED LED 12 (–, red), 14 (+, blue) Red error/warning LED
  • Stern thruster: make up a 4-core cable with 4 connection pins AT62-201-16141-22, remove the white pins from positions 6, 7, 8 and 9 and insert the wires: pins 6 and 8 for STERN PB-1, pins 7 and 9 for STERN PB-2.
  • Wrong thrust direction for a button: swap the wiring of PB-1 and PB-2.

CAN Bus

  • Connect the V-CAN cables as the example diagram: CAN-bus supply, terminators at both ends, connection box of the thruster.
  • Components with one connection (B) join the network through a hub; components with two connections (A) can simply be interconnected. Place the 12 Volt CAN-bus supply preferably in the middle of the system.
  • The CAN-bus power supply must always be 12 Volt (≥10 V, ≤16 V).
  • With a DC/DC converter feeding the CAN bus, make sure input and output minus terminals are, or can be, jumpered.
  • See the bow or stern thruster manual for the detailed thruster CAN-bus diagram and configuration.

On, Off, Takeover

  • On: press BOW PB-1 and BOW PB-2 together; the blue LED flashes with a repeating di-di-di; press both again within 6 seconds – blue LED steady and dah-di-dah (- . -) = ready.
  • A second, inactive panel shows a heartbeat (two short blue flashes every second). Take over control with the same switch-on procedure.
  • Off: hold both bow buttons until all LEDs are off and the switch-off signal sounds; switch off the battery master switch when leaving.
  • Check the thrust direction of every button on every panel, carefully and in a safe place.

Group Codes and Reset

  • Up to four panels (group A–D). Switch off, wait 5 s, hold both bow buttons 10 s, release, press both twice (di-dah-di): configuration mode.
  • Short-press PB-1 or PB-2 to step through the groups: A blue flashing; B red flashing; C blue and red alternately; D blue and red together. Press both once to confirm.
  • Factory reset: switch off, hold both bow buttons 30 s (red LED flashes after 15 s, blue LED on after 30 s), release, press both once to confirm.

LED / Buzzer Messages

  • Messages for bow and stern thruster separately: is / was overheated, is / was overloaded, is / was limiting, supply low; plus child lock after the first push, device enabled and ready, device inactive with thruster active, and disconnected from the network. The blue/red LED and buzzer pattern for each is in the table in the PDF.
