Engine Room Ventilation

  • For ventilating the engine room, toilet or galley. Vetus does NOT recommend using it to supply air to the engine: engine suction would overspeed and overheat the fan.
  • Engine without its own air inlet: the fan can only ventilate the engine room with the engine stopped. Engine with a separate inlet (grille with plenum chamber): the fan extracts hot air with the engine running or stopped.
  • Diesel: air in low, extract high. Petrol: air in high, extract low (below the top of the engine bed, where vapour collects) but not so low it sucks bilge water.
  • Make sure openings and fan capacity are large enough, and follow the engine maker's instructions.

Installation and Wiring

  • Fit on a bulkhead or floor, well above the bilge water and away from splashes, drips or deck wash water, facing downwards so water drains.
  • Use the fan as a template; drill for 4.8 mm (no. 10) screws and tighten evenly.
  • Duct: smooth inside, resistant to at least 70º C (158 degrees F), water, oil, fuel and under/over-pressure; internal diameter 76 mm (3") for A / C, 102 mm (4") for B / D. Short, few bends, large radius; screw it on and secure with stainless hose clamps.
  • Without a duct, fit a grille over the opening.
  • Check the boat voltage matches the fan (12 or 24 Volt). Main switch rated 10 Amps and a medium time lag fuse in the positive cable (value per model in the wiring diagram). Wire at least 1.5 mm2, insulation rated over 70 degrees C.

Operation

  • Run the fan at least 4 minutes and check the engine room for vapour before starting the engine.
  • NEVER switch the fan on while refuelling.
