About These Documents

  • Service manual: "Mitsubishi Diesel Engine Service Manual, Model K2AS, K2B, K2C, KE70, KE75", VETUS reference STM0140, edition '85-10 (scanned). It describes the structure and service procedures of the Mitsubishi vertical 2-cylinder diesel engines.
  • The manual does not state which of these models is the base of the M2.05; check the engine model embossed on the front left side of the crankcase and the engine number stamp.
  • Parts catalogue: VETUS "Onderdelencatalogus / Parts catalogue M2.05", W.H. den Ouden 1989 (scanned), pages dated 28-9-85 to 15-4-88; available as the second download.
  • All values on this page were read from the scanned pages.

Adjustments

Valve Clearance

  • Clearance, intake and exhaust: K2 0.25 mm, KE 0.35 mm.
  • Remove the rocker cover, loosen the rocker arm nut, check with a feeler gauge and adjust with the adjusting screw.
  • Adjust No. 1 cylinder at TDC on its compression stroke, then No. 2 cylinder at TDC on its compression stroke (timing mark on the gear case aligned with the crankshaft pulley mark).
  • Hold the adjusting screw and tighten the rocker arm nut. Retighten the cylinder head bolts before adjusting the valves.
  • Cylinder head bolt torque on this page: K2 12–13 kgm; KE70, KE75 13–14 kgm (old bolt only), 14–15 kgm (new bolt w/washer).

Injection Timing

  • Remove the No. 1 delivery valve holder, take out the delivery valve and spring, refit the holder only; turn the crankshaft – the moment fuel stops flowing out of the holder is the injection time.
  • Injection time (at smoke set): K2C-31, 61: 23° BTDC; K2AS-61WM, K2B-31, 61, K2C-31CW, KE70 all types, KE75: 25° BTDC; K2AS-31DG, -61A: 27° BTDC.
  • Correct with the injection pump shims: changing the shim thickness 0.1 mm changes the timing about 1°.
  • Alternative without removing the delivery valve: watch fuel swell at the No. 1 pipe end – this appears about 1° later than the normal injection timing.
