Before Cutting

  • The highest permitted design category and application is marked on every porthole. Always keep portholes closed when under way.
  • A porthole must always open inward. In area 1 on boats of design category A or B, no part may protrude beyond the hull.
  • Only fit in a completely flat hull section – in a curved surface it will never be watertight.
  • Draw the cut-out from the porthole frame; saw it (polyester, aluminium, wood) or acetylene-cut it (steel); remove burrs and smooth the edges. Wear a dust mask and goggles when cutting GRP and ventilate well.
  • Standard range: wall thickness 2 mm to 18 mm; on request 18 mm to 25 mm.

Fitting

  • Clamp profile: no fixing holes in the side of the boat are needed. Apply enough sealant (drawing 1) and place the porthole.
  • M4 screws to DIN965 (ISO7046) or DIN966 (ISO7047), length by wall thickness (D = clamp reach, L = screw length); fit and tighten securely.
  • Place the cover seal but do not shorten it yet: wait two days so no gap opens at the seam, then cut off the excess.

Operation and Maintenance

  • Open: turn the knobs left to loosen, tilt them clear and open; the clamping hinge holds the window at any angle.
  • Close: press shut, tilt the knobs back and twist them shut.
  • Clean anodised or powder-coated aluminium 2 to 4 times a year with neutral cleaning agents only – no alkaline, acidic or abrasive agents, also not to remove adhesive from the glass.
  • Protect the sealing rubbers with talcum powder.
  • Hinges: re-adjust if the window will not stay open. A I: open fully and turn the screws as needed (drawing 2). A III: remove the plastic covers and tighten the screws, 2 per hinge (drawing 3).
