Main Switch

  • Disconnect all battery cables when adding the switch to an existing installation; keep the switch OFF while connecting it.
  • Fit it in a bulkhead as close as possible to the bow thruster or windlass battery to keep cables short.
  • Connect it in the − (ground) cable from the battery to the motor; use cables of sufficient cross-section and cable terminals.
  • With a series-parallel switch: use a 12 Volt main switch for a 24 Volt thruster on a 12 Volt network, and a 24 Volt main switch for a 48 Volt thruster on a 24 Volt network.

Remote Control

  • Place it near the steering position, readily accessible, and fit it as shown in the drawings.
  • Lay the cable to the main switch and plug the connectors together; if the cable must be cut, reconnect core to core by colour.
  • With two steering positions both panels connect through a T-piece or splitter.
  • Check: battery connected, switch on and confirm the thruster or windlass works; switch off and confirm it can no longer be switched on.

Wiring Examples

  • 12 Volt bow thruster; 24 Volt bow thruster.
  • 24 Volt bow thruster with a series-parallel switch on a 12 Volt board system.
  • 48 Volt bow thruster with a series-parallel switch on a 24 Volt board system.

Main fuse size and main current cable cross-section: see the bow thruster manual. The main switch power supply is wired in 1mm2.

Operating
