Technical Data

Item Value
Main contact 1 x Normally open: max. current continuous, not switching 400 A; during 60 sec. 1000 A
Charge contacts 2 x Normally closed: max. charging current continuous 100 A; intermittent at 20% duty cycle 150 A
Coil 12 V DC, 2.4 A
Dimensions 240 × 180 × 100 mm

Never draw more than 100 A continuous through the charge contacts: never use these batteries as starter batteries and never connect an anchor winch to them.

Principle

  • While the thruster runs, the two 12 Volt batteries are connected in series to give 24 Volt; while charging they are in parallel on the 12 Volt charging system.
  • The switch operates automatically as soon as the thruster is used and switches off with a delay afterwards.
  • An isolating switch in the charging wire lets you separate the battery sets when not charging for a long time, to prevent excessive discharge.
  • If the thruster batteries also feed 12 Volt loads, both batteries supply them through the charging wires and charge contacts.

Wiring

  • Disconnect all battery wires before extending an existing installation with the switch and 2 extra batteries.
  • Fit the switch close to the batteries and thruster, in one of the illustrated positions.
  • Batteries: same type, capacity and age; total capacity per the thruster manual; as close as possible to the thruster.
  • Main circuit wires of sufficient cross-section, with a main switch and fuse in the + wire to the thruster; main switch OFF while connecting.
  • Charging wires of sufficient cross-section; do not connect the alternator wire to terminal 51 yet. If the same alternator also charges another battery set, separate the circuits with a battery isolator.
  • Connect the control wire to the panel only, not yet to the thruster.

Checks

  1. Check all wires against the diagram.
  2. Voltmeter: 12 Volt between + of battery 1 and − of battery 2, and between + of battery 2 and − of battery 1.
  3. Switch on the panel and operate the direction switch: the series-parallel switch engages; check 24 Volt between + of battery 2 and − of battery 1.
  4. Connect the control wire to the thruster and operate the direction switch: the thruster relay must operate.
  5. Connect the alternator wire to terminal 51 (+ALT), switch on the thruster main switch and check that the thruster works properly.
