Vetus Flexible Propeller Shaft Coupling UNIFLEX 13-16 — Installation Manual

Mounting

  • Leave a minimum free space between outer bearing and propeller hub for axial shaft movement.
  • Sailing forward the rubber part must be compressed. Not allowed with a V-drive gearbox.
  • Oversize shaft: reduce it over taper length A to the coupling bore d (see overall dimensions); radius r minimal 2 mm (0.08").
  • Maximum allowable misalignment: 2°.
  • Clamp joint and shaft free of grease and dirt; keep solvents off the rubber; grease the outside of the taper and the bolts.

Bolts and Torques

  • Clamp bolts: Uniflex 13 M8 x 25, 23 Nm (2.3 kgm, 17 lbs.ft); Uniflex 16 M12 x 35, 79 Nm (7.9 kgm, 58 lbs.ft). Tighten in the numbered sequence 1–6 and re-tighten if needed.
  • Coupling-to-gearbox flange: M10 x 25 with M10 self-locking nuts and LOCTITE 222 Screwlock, 45 Nm (4.5 kg.m, 33 lbf.ft).
  • Disassembly thread: Uniflex 13 M10, Uniflex 16 M12.
  • Shaft end position in the hub: min. 10 mm (3/8"), max. 13 mm (1/2") / max. 10.5 mm (7/16") as drawn.
  • Use a torque wrench.

Maximum angular displacement for both models 2°. Both have an M10 flange pattern on 82.5 (3 1/4") and a 63.5 (2 1/2") spigot.
